For now this will have to work. I don't have a picture of my wake. Just this video of me trying to wakesurf.

http://youtu.be/qwTuYH6isTc

This is my 2006 Mobius LSV
This is with 400 lbs in each rear locker, a chest cooler in the surf side locker, 3 people in the boat, wake plate almost all the way down(somewhere between 3/4 and all the way down), the stock ballast bag in the ski locker full, at 11.5 mph. Any comments are helpful.

get at least a 750 and raise the wake plate to 3/4 to all the way up.

walb0244

I'm looking at getting bigger bags for the rear. When I put the wake plate up the pocket gets way small. Am I going too fast?

wolfeman131
08-14-2011, 08:55 AM
I find speeds between 9.5 & 10.5 work best, for my boat the slower speeds shorten the pocket and the faster speeds lengthen it.

I was just about to say the same thing!!! she looks like she's 20 feet back of the boat!! I can't wait to get my go pro running... i just bought the roll bar mount for it yesterday i think i'm gonna mount it on the tower. This looks like it's mounted on the bar on the back of the boat????

wolfeman131

she might not be that far back, but she has an ability to catch up from further back than most. She pulls off some recoveries that we all shake our heads at!

The go pro was mounted on the transom with the suction cup mount, just above the rear tiedown eye. Just in case, we also had a lanyard from the camera case tied off to the rear grab handle. Camera was set to snap a pic every 2 secs. Really want to get some video from this angle next weekend.

The roll bar mount is just big enough to fit on the rear ski pylon... its got a wkde angle screen so if u put it on the tower the rider looks really far back in the film

08 XLV...first pic trying to ride darkside on the port wake. 2nd pic is my 6'4" buddy on his first ever attempt at wakesurfing. The wake was at his hip/waist but pocket is kinds short with a steep face. If we take out some of the wakeplate or increase the speed a little the wake mellows out. Last pic is goofy side, pocket goes way back.

Gotcha, it just looks like your going pretty fast. I actually keep it in between 11-12 too. Get to do some testing this weekend with my new 750 fat sac and then another 400 in the seats as well as the 400lb bag in the center. I am excited to see how we do.

Pic of my son trying for first time behind our 06 LSV, stock bag in locker, one 400lb sac next to engine and one in rear floor surf side and only two people on the boat...because we couldn't get anyone else to think it was a good idea to go out surfing on March 18th. Water was cold but air temp was 80 or so. Never could get it dialed in where he could let go of rope. Played with speed and wakeplate and this was the best we could do. Any suggestions other than force family/friends to go next time!13970

wolfeman131

Put a giant cooler of ice cold beer in the surf side locker. It will add the weight you need, plus a lot more people are apt to come along regardless of the weather.

Or, try stacking the bags in the rear surf side locker so you get around 800 back there, plus the ski locker full. Wake plate all the way up and 9.5-10.5 mph. From there, it's all about technique and finding the sweet spot.

Ryan I didn't have any front or center weight but I really haven't worked on the surf wave too much because I have been wanting to improve my wakeboarding. Port side is way better for me I can not get starboard to clean up when we start running that weight. Remember I only have the little LSV and when we ride 80% of the crew is goofy. Also my boat is rub rail deep in the corner and you really have to pay attention when turning stopping ect.

My second outing since the rebuild and first attempt at a surf wake. Storms rolled in quickly & didn't get a chance to tweak much with the wake plate, speed, ballast, etc. But looks like the makings of a surfable wake...

1 x 400# rear ski locker
2 x 450# under convertible rear bench
1 x 750# on port floor next to engine
1 x 400# under port bow (the starboard bow 400 was missing a plug so couldn't fill it)

wake plates ~ 1/2 way
~10 mph (uncalibrated speedos)

Anyone ever tank on a huge amount of water (either side or bow) from a really loaded boat? Whenever I look at some of the weight in the boats I think all that needs to happen is for the boat to get a little rolly, dip under the waterline on a wave and your done for.

jmvotto
07-16-2012, 09:32 PM
Taken small amounts over the bow with the 07 obv. It was just so low, then added 750 rear, 400 locker and 650 ibs up front. I swam around the bow when loaded and I swear I only had 4 to 6 inches above the water.

Never taken any over the side but I could see that day coming. Take a little over the bow fairly regularly when running weight in the nose. Have taken a few inches over the bow before and that was sorta spooky. With the playpen front it went right across the cushions, up over the windshield and doused me and everyone in the cabin. Never once felt like we were going under though.

Worst part ended up being that we did not have a single dry towel after that.

With all my ballast completely full I'll take water over the entire stern half way up onto the sun deck when I come off a plane if I don't watch it.

harmsway
07-17-2012, 09:16 PM
Big surf wave = big rollers your going to take one over the bow occassionally. 5-8 gallons of water bouncing around the bow and rushing down the walk way is a site to see.

We have been running 2800 lbs of ballast in our '08 LS this summer and there have been a few close calls with it coming over the side, but that was when the water was rough and with a lot of boats in the main chanel creating some large rollers.

Hey guys I upgraded my ballast to 1100 rear bags and the 1150 front bag. I'm trying both port and starboard wakes with the front bag full, and one rear bag full.

If I add anything to the opposite bag, the wave flattens out Also finding it hard to get a long pocket without the wakeplate down, and not feeling enough push to go completely ropeless unless i'm damn near on the swim step.

Riding IS Squirt, also have the mucus but I haven't tried it yet. Ideas, thoughts suggestions?

not sure, but that seems like a lot of weight in the front.

I have the LSV, I run a 400 (V-Drive Sac in rear port locker), 400 mid-port side (beside seat), and the integrated front ballast full. and i get a wake like this..

As far as swamping the boat, can't say I ever have... but can't say same for wife. Not often but it has happened. I will agree with the rest that it takes alot to roll my XLV on it’s side for surfing. 1100 surf v-drive locker, 1150 ski locker, 500 on observer seat, 500 on surf side bow, about 500 off surf v-drive locker. It’s tall, steep, and long with plate down running 12. I love it, but some have a problem with it’s vertical wall and transition to the flat at the bottom. Definitely have to stay back on the board. I’ve got some pics and videos on this thread somewhere.
