I am getting ready for the Lake season. Took her out of the garage, started her up and let it idle. After a few min., I pulled the oil line to drain all the old oil. Took the engine cover off and low and behold, the oil cap was missing. I found it wedge between some wires and the engine. After, what was left of the oil, I look in my drain pan that I set at the back of the boat. There was about a qt of oil in there. The rest has sprayed all off the engine. I think there was more oil in the filter than the engine. $380.00 and I will never take it back to them again.
Speaking of changing the oil, I was told to get the Penzoil PZ-52 filter. The Old filter that came off was a Sierra 18-7876. The reason I am asking is because the new filter is half the size of the one that came off. Also, what is the Number of the spark plug I should get?

I have had good luck buying a chevy truck oil filter that fits the last year the truck is listed with a 350 in the oil filter books at the parts store. Ususally they will come in a couple sizes-not diamature but height, I get the larger one.

yup. 2 sizes, but it's height not diameter. iirc, it has to do with the 4x4 setup and clearing the front axle. buy the taller one.

What did the dealer do? didn't quite follow that? they change oil last and leave cap off or do that at winterization?

NAPA 1060 is the longer version of the 1069.

AC 41-932 platinum plugs replaced by 41-101 Iridium. Replaced my original 41-932 plugs this spring with Denso PT16TT platinum gapped at .040 and motor is running great. Engine Nut posted in the past that only catalytic converter engines benefit from Iridium plugs.

I think the plugs that cam out were the AC Delco 933. The filter that they gave me was a short one. So I guess that I need to get rid of the Filter that I bought and put in the correct one. Curious, what can happen with the short filter? Should I be worried. Just asking because I went to the lake today and put another 4 hours on the engine.

They left the cap off and the oil Filter was loose. When I pulled the engine cover off, they was oil everywhere. Today I went to the lake for a test run before our big trip and the boat ran great. I am going to look at one of these filters. Seems like I can not trust the stealership anymore. I will be doing my own fluid changes for now on.

the fram ph 30 is a smaller filter , the ph 5 is bigger and has the antidrain back valve ......personally the corresponding mobile 1 oil filter is what I use, forget the number but it correlates to the ph5.......I figure the bigger the filter the bettter...ie another 1/3 litre of oil in it and more filtering......but it never gets more than 50 hrs of run time

it's my understanding that the larger filters are just that, larger.. they hold more oil, so in theory, more clean oil in the engine, but if you change it at 50 hrs, it's really not getting that dirty. different lengths to fit the miriad of cars/trucks that the gm 5.7 has been stuffed in over the years.

Short filter is what comes from the factory. Like Sandm says, the longer filter just holds a little more oil. Either way the imporntant thing is to change the oil.
