Proper ballast for 07 Outback V ??

Hello all. Or help all. We managed to get in the water on Sunday and try out wakesurfing for the first time. The boat came with two 440# sacs. With three humans at another 450#s I basically put everything on the port side. People and sacs (one in the v locker and one on the bench seat, aft of the spotters seat. One driver, spotter and one pain in the ass nephew who moved up forward and aft with no real success. Very close to having a wake to surf on but not enough to get beyond a few seconds of slack. What do I need? Anyone successfully getting a good surfing wake with an 07 OBV or similar hull? Oh, and I should mention that I don't have a wake plate? Big problem?

I now have a 750 , 400 in the center and looking to doa bow sac may 400 up front.

Thanks! I thought I might have seen that thread some where else. Great pics too. It looks like I need to add a 750 and just move the 440s up forward a bit. Are you putting anything on the starboard side?

My best combo however has been 400 rear locker, 750 side seats in the cabin, 400 center locker and 450 front seat.

That is awesome. Seriously good wake there. Unfortunately, my human weight consists of lots of nephew's and neices and they don't weigh that much :(

How is it with just the 750 rear/400 center?

Where do you put the front seat 450? (ie, along the surf side portion of the bow, or straddling the seats closer to the nose of the bow, etc?) What do you usually do with the wakeplate/speed in that setup?

I have a 07 obv and Run the 750 in the rear locker, 400 under the seats on the port side, nothing in the center locker, then have everybody sit on the port side, also I have 2 250's I will throw on the seats as necessary depending on how many people I have in the boat Its not all about the weight as much as "list" If I want the wave a bit longer I will throw 1 250 in the bow and tie it to the grab rail but when there is enough free friend ballast there is no need just make a buddy sit up there all. I keep all the weight is as far over as I can get it no off side filling It just doesn't seem to work for me

I know My boat is weighted properly when the rub rail is in the water when loaded like this I am very careful slowing down and turning around take your time of you will get wet !!!!

run the plate from 3/4 to full up
and ~ 10.5 mph

In those pictures i am running 750 in the rear, 400 in the locker and an integrated bow sac that I would estimate at 450-500 lbs. There was one woman (she weighs maybe a buck fifteen soaking wet) driving and three guys on the surf side who I would guestimate at another 560lbs.

That was all achieved through the GI system (centre locker only) and a Tsunami hand pump. After 2 seasons of hand pumping those bags it finally got old and I am in the process of plumbing in a fully dialed in system. It will be a treat to be able to change surf sides at a flip of a switch!

Not only will I be able to fill and drain all of the various lockers but I am also designing it so that I can fill run an additional bag in the seating area if I don't have enough people in the boat.

Did a bunch of work today on the system and will update my ballast upgrade thread when I get a chance. Basically got all of my lines hooked up and now need to install the switches and wire everything up.

I totally agree with this statement! To me it kinda feels like you are side slipping the hull through the water when you have it properly weighted.

you should do the cooler removal mod so you can have a 400 under the port seats! the "Cooler" in our boats were worthless anyway

Going with an additional 750 and I may pick up a couple 400's for some added flexibility in weight positioning. That and I can use the 400's for wakeboarding too.

Even though the cooler is crappy, there is no way that my wife would let me cut it out. It also may be because she is a goofy foot too!

I replaced my port side locker 750 with an 1100 this year. It helps alot when we lack human balast.

Pretty sure you're not getting an 1100 in the back locker of an OutbackV and even if you did I'm guessing it wouldn't be much fuller than a 750 but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.:confused:

Anyone here with an older generation OBV running an 1100 in the locker?

My setup that I have come to realize maximizes my wake on my 07 outback V is 750 rear locker a 400 on the port seat and a 400 port side in the box. Wake plate 1/3 up at 11.2mph. I am riding an obrien tt alias in the pic which is a slow board but i have no problem keeping with the wave and i am a big guy. Plus thats the longest we can get the wake.. we have about 1000 pounds human ballast on average as well with the heaviest in the back corner

The wake is "ok" with the 750rear/400 enter/450 bow but I prefer the 400 rear/750 side seats/400 center/450 bow.

I just put the 450 on the front seats suft side.

Wakeplate 50% and 10.5mph.

I also have a 07 OBV with factory installed Gravity 3 system with the stock 400lbs bags and it is real easy to surf behind with minimal people in the boat. Put a few people in the boat and you can pull lip tricks off the top of the wake. Buddy has a new wakesetter and it is not a whole lot better.

How much do you weigh and what board are you surfing with?

I ride a phase five oogle and I am about 150lbs . The largest i have had on a board is about 200lbs with no issue. (other than skill) haha

What kind of tricks are you doing with your lips? :wink:

360 spins some real small airs, let your self get far back in the wake and start pumping towards boat with speed and you can get some little airs.

my boat came with 3 of the 16x10x70 bags, so when I got my 750 I slide the stock bag forward. It runs from v drive compartment to under the observer seat I probably only get 350 out of it but makes the wake great
