No drought here - no boat launch either!

My buddy swung by my favorite boat launch at lunch today. Looks like the start of the season may be a few more weeks out so to speak...

No way in hell the weather man is going to call a drought possibility this summer. No way.... I've lived here 14 years and I've never seen the water that high.


On a brighter note, looks like I have more time to get my projects done and not feel like I'm in a mad rush. ;)

That my friend is the Columbia river at the Port of Vancouver launch or Portco as we usually refer to it... Just a little upstream from the I-5 bridge.

That is how it is on the river up by us. We couldn't get out if we wanted to right now. First cold weather now this :(

Our lake is also closed to flooding. 25ft above full pool. They say with no rain, it'll drop 1ft a day with the flood gates open. Well Heck, that puts us into mid June if no rain. HA, 10 day forcast calls for 8 days with rain....

Also wanted to do a tie-up on the Ohio river in Cincinatti where you pull up to the Ampitheater and can listen to concerts for free. Doesn't look like that's happening till July. Gonna miss Motley Crue =-(

This is in Vancouver Just up river of I-5 across from Portland.
Ilwaco is out at the coast 70mi down river.

Wow - looks like those docks are barely poking out too!

My brother was out fishing Monday and said the river there (Longview area) was pretty bad too. All kinds of crap getting washed downstream - logs, brush, even a few stumps.

We have wind dams along the river banks here - a bunch of pilings going out 100ft + into the channel and tied together with horizontal timbers across them almost like a walkway. Almost all of those are submerged right now. Usually they're pretty easy to spot as the last piling is taller than the rest. Now they're silent submerged prop and rudder eaters...

At least we're getting the river flushed out now instead of in the middle of prime weather.

Those wing dams are a pain in the arse but make for great Sturgeon fishing!

i know all to well about high water this year... record rainfall last year we froze up real wet and had record snowfall this winter as well, our lake is the pits right now. I've been down to sandbag 4 times this spring helping out neighbors and the end of our street making wave breaks to keep it from washing down to our cabin. Out boat launch is unusable right now to. here are some pics and vids of what we got going on right now.

1st pic is from the street in front of our cabin. without that barrier at the end of the street the waves can wash right down to us if the wind is up enough. Second pic is of the boat launch on May 3rd, now the water is about 14" higher. The third pic is a closeup of our makeshift wave break, weeds, reeds, concrete ties, and sandbags... works pretty well so far. as of today the water level has peaked as is supposed to slowly recede.

this is amazing, up where all yall are there is recording rainfall and record flooding. down here it is a record setting drought. we got rain last thursday for the first time in about 2 months. and i only lasted a few hours. i found this really cool switch on my truck that i had forgotten about it, it wipe the water off the windshield.

we are forcasted for rain today and tomorrow so we have our fingers crossed!
yall need to build a pipe line and send some of that extra water our way.

I had to go see it for myself. It was a beautiful day here yesterday and didn't stop some people from venturing out. Personally I'm not that anxious to buy a new prop yet... There's a ton of garbage floating downstream.

I was reading a NWS bulletin that the river was expected to reach or exceed flood level this morning with the high tide cycle right around this area and downstream some.
