Well I have decided that I am sick of my tower box and 6.5 component speakers set up so I am going a different route

So... I picked up a set of the kicker 6500.2 tower speakers in black cans!!! All you guys running hlcd speakers have sold me on them I have buddies with wake boats but nobody has any hlcd's so I am super excited to get these

My big ? is that with my last tower set up I was using a kicker 350.4 amp and it seems to do fine with that set up. I am hoping i can save a buck and that this will work for my new tower set up. For now I dont plan on adding the second set of mid's I know that there is no way the 350.4 will work for that since I would need 300 rms

also what gauge wire should I run up the tower I am gonna gut the old wiring out since it probably isnt big enough anyway

Model ZXM350.4

RMS Power, all channels driven:
@ 14.4V, 4Ω stereo, ≤ 1% THD+N 60W x 4
@ 14.4V, 2Ω stereo, ≤ 1% THD+N 90W x 4
@ 14.4V, 4Ω mono, ≤ 1% THD+N 175W x 2
Length 13-1/2" (342mm)
Height 2-1/8" (54mm)
Width 9-5/8" (244mm)
Frequency Response ± 1dB 20Hz–20kHz
Signal-to-noise Ratio >95dB, A-weighted, re: rated power
Input Sensitivity Low Level: 125mV–5V
High Level: 250mV–10V
Selectable Electronic Crossover Variable HI, LO, or OFF (bypass) | 50–200Hz, 12dB/octave
Bass Boost Variable 0–18dB @ 40Hz

I would run quality 12 gauge so that whatever you upgrade to in the future, you won't have to run new wires again. Also, I would run your amp bridged to get the most power to your speakers, and so u only have to run two pairs of speaker wire up the tower.

I used that exact amp, bridged to 2 channels, with 12 AWG wire for my tower speakers :)

Yea I think that I used 16 ga the last time figured these may need bigger. I will be running it bridged

Search the forum, someone asked the same question recently. Phil @ Kicker stated the 350.4 would work but the 450.2 is the best for that setup.

I ran 16 ga speaker wire for my SXT65Qs powered by the Exile harpoon 1K amp. How big of a hole did yall put in the tower to run 12 ga wire? I couldn't even find 12 ga speaker wire and the hole I drilled to fit 2 pairs of 16 ga wire made me cringe it was so big!

yea I searched for a while but it seemed that 450.2 was better because of the flexability to add the extra mids later and if I remember the other guy hadn't already had a amp for their set up and had to buy a new one just wanted to double triple check before telling the wife I had an amp already

I had 4 pairs 16 ga or maybe 18 ga now that I think of it going up my tower before

I had 16 already in my tower when i installed the SXT65's and they sound fine. Even Brian mentioned it's not that big of a deal. Once you drill holes it's all down hill! :p

yea the holes are in my boat but the thru hulls I used are gonna get the ax since I would rather have straight wire from amp to the cans instead of having a fitting and connector not sure what I'm gonna do there yet

maybe its the brand of wire i bought. i bought the 16 ga monster speaker wire from the home theater department at home depot. maybe the insulation on that wire is thicker than normal. i put a half in hole inch and 2 sets of speaker wire one for left and one for right BARELY fit in a half inch hole

I have a 1/2" hole as well and fit two pairs of 12 gauge thru it (and four pairs of 16 gauge before that). Sounds like the cable u bought might have thicker than normal insulation.

Yes it does, i used the exact same cable. I have 1/2 hole in the tower and 2 pair barley fit.

Al the wire he used is the exact same as what i gave you for your sub a while back. Really thick insulation to protect it from damage and interference.
