Well,

I've put off replacing the steering cable on my 05 xlv steering cable as long as I could (as I know it will be a chore to replace). I drilled into the cable a few seasons back and lubed it (and it worked....for a while).

Here's the question. Does anyone know what part number I need to replace the existing cable on a 2005 xlv? I did find the part number off the existing cable, but of course, can't read the last (and most important) number. its either a 0 or a 3.. For example, SSC 1342_.

I am upgrading to the new Teleflex Xtreme and that number is SSC 1542_(EITHER A 0 OR 3)Depending on the length needed.

Any insight on the correct length would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone have any tips on replacing the cable?

Call skidim and they will know exactly which one you need for your boat.

Please post the right numbers when you get them. I was planning on using the drill/lube approach, but I'll go straight to the cable replacement if it's not too expensive.

Thanks in advance

The correct part number for the Teleflex Extreme is SSC15420 (20' steering cable).

Good news,

I was able to replace the cable without removing the floor. With the help of a friend, I completed it in 4 hours.

Ah, I was finally able to dig up this thread. I'll be attempting this installation tomorrow. desert wake, what procedure did you use to avoid the floor work? Is it documented anywhere?

Thanks in advance.
