Had a few extra hours to kill so I tried this. I have been reading on this and other forums that the swim platform created issues when trying to surf. I know from my experience in boat racing that a channel that will introduce air int the water will create a "softer" water. here are the first pis of the project, i will take more and upload them later.

looking good, cant wait to see the finish product first hand.

btw, the video on the phone was really pixally, real hard to see anything in detail.

I like it, curious as to how it affects the wave. Did you do any foam and silicone trials before hand? Or straight to foam and glass?

Straight to foam and glass. Never even filled the ballast before hand.
With racing and building race boats I learned a lot from several of the top performance boat builders and went right to the finished product.
Hope it worked if not I'm not out much

How about a product materials list for those who may want to duplicate. You could be a trend setter.

Did you take photos or video of the wake before the mod. I've thought about doing this for years. fingers crossed.

The OBV will fit in one of the bays of my garage, the others are too long.
Plus if I want to do other things I have other boats for that so I didnt want to spend the extra money, Im cheap...

How about glassing in lead around the channel, dual function.

FLTH2O
Lead would make the platform very heavy and I have no idea what it would do to the mounts, besides then it wouldnt be removable for any other activities

Here are the last of the pics, finally uploaded them

Yes Mr Peanut lent a helping hand, he held the gel coat....

I will post pics of the wake in a few hours. Just got back from the lake and remembered to take pics, took them from my phone so Im not sure of the quality yet

Here are the pics I took today.
11 mph
full stock ballast, front and right rear
2 adults and a baby, maybe 300lbs total

They may all look alike but are 3 different pics.

Let me know what you think..

11 Outback V

Maybe its just me but I dont think they look the same. Mine apears to be very smooth in the flat of the wake and has a more defined lip to push. I dont know if that is from the platform mod or not????

The passenger side should be bigger due to the prop rotation correct?

Yes.

IDK in my opinion both look washy. I am used to seeing the nice rich dark center to the wave and only see the wash on the tail end.

These are both Stock ballast before i upgraded my setup. 400 in the rear and 400 in the ski locker.

Well, the earlier two are both OBV wakes and you have the LSV. Also, the wake plate position can affect the lip. And, don't forget, the prop also affects the shape of the wake to a small extent. When we did the prop testing weekend we noticed that in general the higher pitched props that were worse for low end pull actually threw a slightly cleaner looking surf wake.

Yes.

Hmmmm.....I always thought my drivers side surf wake looked bigger as a result of the left hand prop rotation driving the right side of the boat deeper into the water.

Newguy, I saw the video the obv that Ed and Todd have are totally different hulls than the pre 06 lsv and 06 to 08 obv, which we have. My wake is pretty clean like mmanleys with 700 in the back and 400 in the enter with three or 4 passengers..

I doubt you'll see or feel much of a difference in the wave. We took the platform completely off one day just to see what would happen and didn't notice any noticeable difference in size, shape, or cleanliness of the wave.

moombadaze

Todd's and Ed's look very similair to me. I also thought that the goofy side makes a cleaner wave due to prop rotation.

Todd, you are the first that I know of to do something like that-way to go for envelope pushing

Its all good and i wasn't trying to compare the LSV wave to the OBV wave i was just trying to see if there was an issue. I know with ours the Drivers side has a little more curl to it and thats prolly the prop rotation. Yet the passenger side of the boat has a much nicer looking smooth wave to it.

I was just under the understanding you want that dark smooth center to the wave.

Im by no means an expert at surfing waves and hince i dont even have any pictures of my wave with my new ballast set up. 750 rear and 1000 in front.

Ill get some this year.

As long as you can ride the wave then its all good i just know when i hit the washy stuff it seems to eat my board or my legs up and i cant surf it at all.

This is what my OBV threw last year with the 750 rear and 400 center. I got the 1100 pounder to play with this year, but it's huge!

I'll probably miss the Sinclair mini jam, I will be in Idaho to visit family around that time it looks like. But I only make it out there once a year if I'm luck. The last few years I've been out two or three times a years, once to visit, and once or twice each year for deaths...

That'd be way cool! I used to live in Nampa (worked for Micron Electronics). I loved to ride the greenbelt along the river in Boise up to the dam and back to the bars, good times!

If there is someway I can arrange an extended escape I'll give ya a holler, thanks!

wolfeman131

Heck, Daze has his LSV dialed in for surfing. I had just fallen out of the pocket and decided to throw my signature move.
