Boat Insurance Companies

I am looking for boat insurance and have found that companies that only insure boats seem to have a better deal. What companies are being used and do they seem to be fair and give good coverage. I have found fairly good rates with SKI SAFE and BOAT.US.

Are people willing to share what they pay for insurance? Something tells me my new Moomba is going to cost more than the $180 I pay to insure my 93 i/o.

I have had prices anywhere from high $300's to $800.

I have narrowed it down to two companies. One is $390, the other is $412. Just a little different coverages.

I am presently w/o a boat until mine arrives in March. I previously insured the boat I sold with Progressive which has my RV too. Their rates seemed pretty good and they did allow a reduced coverage rate during my boat's winter storage. 400 to 800 dollars seems like a very high rate range. Anyone else use Progressive?? I never had a claim with them so no experience on how they perform for claims.

What was the value of the boat you insured prior to this one. Progressive was mid $400's. Remember you are insuring a boat valued at approx. $35,000 - $40,000. I only found 1 quote under $400 and it was with BOAT US.

I sold my old boat for 5500 dollars. So yes, I would expect to pay more for my new one, just not sure how much. Do not know if Progressive will give me a break for insuring both or not, guess it will be worth to shop. I will give Progressive a call to get a quote to see if having the RV already gives me a break.

Not sure. I would definitely check into it. If not, give some other companies a try. SKI SAFE will replace the boat within the first 30 months if totalled, and gives a layup discount, meaning that you can choose 4 months that you will not use the boat, and they discount it. For the Mobius LSV, it was still a touch over $400. Another item that I am NOT looking forward to is getting a tax bill for personal property on the boat. That sucks.

State Farm is $610 anually on $35000 with a 500.00 deductable. I am going to check with my dealer when I go out there this weekend about companies that specialize in boats.

I have a friend who is a State Farm agent and quoted my $425 for $35,000 coverage if I had a boaters safety course, $473 without it.

That is another thing to consider. In Georgia for someone without a valid drivers license, you must have a boaters saftey course. My son took it online. Cost $15. I took it a few weeks ago. I now qualify for the discount.

You may want to look into that to also lower your rates. Like I said, I got much better than the $610 thru BOAT US and SKI SAFE.

I have my outback insured with state farm for $30,000. with $500. deductable and only pay $297.00 per year. I have the safe boating course discount and also all my other insurance with them.

All I have with State farm is homeowners. I called to get a quote to see about where they were. I talked to my dealer and he had a quote for $306. I figure between 300-400 is about right.

What amount of liability coverage are we talking about? That has a pretty dramatic effect on my rates.

My dealer hooked me up with Boater's Insurance Agency, Inc. last year when my boat was new. I just renewed thru them with a company called Ace Insurance Co. The boat is insured for $34,000 with a deductible of $360, the trailer for $2,000 with a deductible of $250 and personal effects for $2,500 with a deductible of $250. Cover included 100,000 Watercraft liability, 5,000 Medical Payments, 100,000 Uninsured Boaters and 500 towing reimbursement.

I don't know if this is good or not, but it was cheaper than when I investigated All State which was around $650. It seems most non-boat insurance specialties don't realize that the huge engine in a wakeboard boat isn't for high speeds. They see the horsepower and think it is a speed boat rather than the tractor it is.

I haven't talked with you in a while. How must was the annual premium. BoatUS was just under $400 for what seems to be the same coverage you stated. Also,,,,,, my boat is supposed to be at the dealer tomorrow. Can't wait.

Check with whoever you have your homeowners insurance through. Many times you can get your boat covered under this and get a discount if you have multiple policies with them.

That was the first place I checked. They were still pretty high. Next I tried my car insurance company. They were out the roof. My best prices have come from BOATUS ane another insurance company that only insures water craft. I also believe they panic when other companies see that HP rating in the 300's.

I tried to get my boat insured under the house policy but they said that it didn't qualify because the motor was to big. All they cared about was how much horespower it had. So we have to find another way to insure it.

I got quoted $272 for the 1st year by the boaters insurance company. The boat doesn't depreciate over the term of coverage like it does with some insurance policies. They are offering a 50% discount to Skier's Choice customers for the 1st year. Next year will be around $500 dollars, but that includes towing. I'll shop again next year. 800-344-7488

Got my 05 Mobius LS on saturday. Awesome boat. The worst part was driving at 2000 rpm the 1st 30 mins, it had .5 hrs on it. I also had the map sensor fail. From what the dealer told me, Indmar got a bad batch of sensors, but had no way of tracking this. That happend at the end of the day as i was pulling into the marina to get my boat out of the water. Can't wait for warm weather.

Map sensor controls the air/fuel mixture on fuel injected boats? Easy to replace, 2 screws. I would spend my first 4 hrs at the lake near your dealer. That way if there are any problems, they can be handled easily without ruining your day. You can't really do anything for the 1st 2 hours, and 3 and 4 just get you familiar with your boat.

Thanks for the info on the MAP sensor. How will you know if you have a problem. Will the boat just start running rough?

Also, I called The Boaters Ins. company. Got a quote on a 05 Mobius LSV of $305 for first year. BOAT US is 373, but stays constant after that. Boaters Ins says $550 or so after first year. Wondering if it is worth the $68 less only for first year. It is enough to think about, but if your coverages lapses and then you try to get insurance, the rates could be higher. I am still trying to decide.

My boat has been at the dealer since late October or November. When my map sensor went bad, by boat would shut off at an idle. Made it hard to put it back on the trailer. It kept shutting off, then started idling high. Easy part to replace, even though, obviously, I'm not exactly sure what it does. I have the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty and hopefully a good relationship with my dealer. I can do simple things, but I won't be messing with my carburator.... Oh yeah, fuel injected.

I know your getting anxious, I couldn't wait to get a hold of mine.

Thanks for the info guys. I sent an email to Moomba to see if they could tell me if there was a lot number or something so I could see if my sensor was bad. Haven't heard yet.

I just got the call today. My Mobius LSV is at the dealer. Going to get it on the 25th of this month.
