I would like to start barefooting and I would like a boom. But I just joinned the ranks of moomba ownership on saturday and the only booms that I can find cost around $500 so i'm not really excited about spending that much right now. . I work in a welding shop and can get aluminum for cost and can weld myself. would be a good idea to try and make something like that? would anyone know how?

I just learned to foot last summer. Started on a boom and moved to a long line by end of summer.
It is my understanding that the boom is made of aircraft aluminum. There is a lot stress on a boom and taking a chance on damaging the boat or putting the skier at risk does not seem like $500 is to much to ask.
Put a over sized handle on the end of the boom and the kids love to play like they are foot'n and ride the swing (as we call it).
Hope this helps.

I agree, $500 is nothing compared to recuring hospital bills and maybe missing all or part of a season.
