Tweaked my krypt hlcds

Yesterday had a few minutes and finally lined the lower half of my pods with stinger roadkill ( like dynamat) to keep the sound from shooting down from the towers and out to the boarders.

JMV - looks like a good job. If I went to the trouble of doing that I would in the future place a few strips of that stuff on the back rear wall of the can next to the crossover. It doesnt have to be pretty. It's just to kill the rattles and live sound some of these cans can have.

Overall where you pleased with the changes? how did it effect the sound for you?

Good idea I have another sheet. Won't be able to do a test til may. Boat is in storage.

We installed ours this same way, but also lightly packed the cans with poly fill.

Im interested to know whether or not you can tell a difference. I, of course, wont have the before and after experience. Let us know how much of a difference it makes.

I was going to ask why not put in a little poly fill. That's what Earmark recommended on my 770's. Takes the "tin" sound out of them.

KG - It's a good idea and would help. But it also depends on the pod size in relationship to the driver thats inside. From what I see of JMV's cans, they look pretty small. Acoustically this can play a role in attenuating the drives response. bigger is not always better.

In his case, I still would dampen down these cans regardless. I'd expect it to help.

We use loose polyester fiberfill or polyester batting specifically to retard the internal reflections that are absolutley coincidental at a particular frequency especially in the context of a round pod. So I would highly recommend this regardless of the pod type so that internal reflections do not influence the midbass cone which is sympathetic to this. But don't over do it by packing the pod full. Just fluff it up and lightly fill. In order to damp the pod itself, Bullet HollowPoint uses a spiral of dense foam which is the most effective killer of resonance I have seen to date. Next up and less messy would be to use Dynamat, Roadkill, Hush this or that or other damping mat. You don't have to cover the entire area of the pod's internal surface to be fully effective. In any case, I like the extra steps to try and get the most and best performance from your gear. Good call.
