About 8-9 months ago the wife and I moved to a new house, so the old house has been on the market for about that long. Well this morning I had to go over there for a termite inspection and discovered that the compressor for the air conditioning unit is gone, just cut copper pipes and an empty concrete pad....son of a......looks like it will be USAA to the rescue. I hate thieves!!!!

My wife had 2 listings for new houses in the middle of nowhere that never sold after the builder went belly up. The thieves took the whole AC units.

There are three types. The ones that sell the copper for scrap, the ones who sell whole unit as a unit-- you see them on Craigslist all the time, and the ones who sell the compressors on ebay.

and the 4th kind...the ones who get caught by a 40 caliber slug a 1200 fps

Yeah it sucks. I looked at the unit today and it is a R22 style so that means the entire unit has to be replaced. Both the outside unit (which was stolen) and the furnace/condensor inside. This is just getting worse.....

No I am an ac guy and you can still by compressors for r22 just not new units. Should cost total maybe1000. Total I mean.

You can do this yourself. You have to sweat in the new compressor and then pump the system down and recharge. Wish you were closer. My brother has an evac pump.

That sucks, I work in the New housing construction indusrty and you would not believe how houses are targeted here. Copper is a prime target. As plumbers we seldom use copper water service rolls any more as they were being cut off and stolen and Electricians often have wire installed one day and ripped out the next as thieves go in at night etc. Also Show homes and spec homes are prime targets for appliance rip offs sometimes shortly after being delivered and hooked up. Just love to see and or catchem JUST ONE TIME.

we should start posting armed guards at these construction sites

had an electrician that worked for me lose wire twice in two different houses. had a stove ripped off in one, and a bar-fridge in another house. never had an ac unit lost, but did have kids huff one dry.

most around here seem to be crimes of opportunity. if the wiring is all stapled down and boxes made up, they leave, but if the wire is still hanging, they snip and steal. fridge and stove were both stolen during open houses when the realtor was at another house in the sub.

i went to a ski mountain the other day and just got brand new $800 skis and they where stolen. so latter that week when my family got a new frig and we took the old one and pot it in the new box and went to home cheapo and looked around and someone stole the old frig in the new box good for us we had no place to pot it

Has anyone ever seen the show bait car? It's on truTV I think, but I love seeing thieves get caught red handed and the excuses they try and come up with. Nothing worse than theives.

Just got a call that our boat storage has been broken into. I'm off shore right now but Heidi is headed up there tomorrow to see how it is.

there are some good signs, the manager of the storage facillity said that the cover of the boat still looked to be on tight and they sheriff caught the intruders and recovered some stolen goods so hopefully nothing of mine was taking and hopefully if anything was taken it was recovered

I couldn't agree more. Anyone willing to take something someone else has busted their rear to get doesn't deserve to live in our society. Hope all is secure David.

Ok got the call. All appears to be well! She even texted me a picture of the port locker and the ZLD so I could see for myself! She did say that one of the cover straps on the transom was undone but there was nothing missing. Guess they got there and thought about it but then decided to go for the quick stuff. Thank goodness!

Glad to hear they didn't lift the cover and get nailed by your spring gun. Hate to see you have to clean their sorry blood off your nice boat.
