Ive been toying with the idea of taking my system to the next level and that is all out insane man. Brain at Exile has made this is a little possible since he sold my amp racks right out from under me lol.

In return i have upgraded my Sub amp and this has been a waterfall effect to redo the entire system.

I was running the Xi 1500.1 and i will now be running the Xi 2500.1.
I currently run the Big 12. As i understand it with my Big 12 Brian said he had it made specifically for my application as it has much larger VC winding and magnet. Same as the Big 15 infact so this will allow it to handle the 2500.1

A couple of people have been asking how I make the amp racks and install them so i got some pics to share and feel free to PM me or email me and i will answer anything you want to know.

Please see my Signature links for the stereo i was running and how it looked. These will be from tear out to rebuild and complete.

This set of pics is off my cell and the faded look is actually my phone flash glaring off the boat :(

The main cause upgrade to Xi 2500.1 its larger then my last amp and wouldn't fit my rack anyhow.

Pulled first amp rack out it held the Xi 800.4 and Xi 1500.1

More pics of the cubby cleaned out. The white block you see is how i mount my racks to the boat. I don't trust drilling into the side of the boat blind.

I made mounting blocks and attached those to the lower foot rail and then again at the center weld where the rub rail is screwed into the boat. This way i have a much larger target to drill into.

I was able to get some templates made for the new racks and hope to get them made tomorrow but i will post more pics once i make some decent progress.

I wont be around to post the final pictures of this up. You can see the final pics and such on my Facebook site or PM me or Email me and ill keep you up to date.

The big changes this to this are

New amp racks to accommodate the Xi2500 sub amp.
Racks are made from Mirrored Plexiglass.
New Digital readout Power Distribution Block
Addition of Million Light LEDS to the cubby. These basically fade from 1 color to the next and then again threw a full color spectrum.
White LEDs on a switch to light the cubby up when needing things or working in there.
White LEDS in the Engine bay area to allow better sight when working in the engine area.
White LEDS to the Rear Lockers to add in seeing in those areas.
6Pack on the tower
Tower - New Pair of XM7s with all the new upgrades since mine were the First Gen production model.
2 Pairs of SXTQs quick release SXT speaker.
Rewire tower to hide all wires no its seamless looking
Removed and had the windshield retinted due to some imperfections in the original tine job
Strip and repaint the windshield frame due to peeling.

Ill have a couple U Tube videos and posting on my Facebook as this gets finished, as Always check out the Exile home page Fierah is always front and center.

Heres the most recent stereo updates.

I was pretty bummed after drilling more then 30 holes and cutting these plexiglass out of the sheet of stock i had with no issues my very last hole to drill breaks off a peace.

Heres the rack for the 2500.1 sub amp and the 1K Harpoon amp.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/Picture016.jpg

The chunk that broke off. I think ill take some vynal strip and place it on the bottom to cover this up. I was able to hot glue it back in place.

The rack looks really scratched and faded but thats the protective cover. Under that is a mirror.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/Picture017.jpg

The reason i have to redo the entire set up. The 2500 wont fit where the 1500 was.

Got some more work on the stereo done today. Got so many things going on in the garage i havnt had time to do this, but the 72 sunny day we had on Saturday really kicked me into over drive to get this done LOL.

Today i mounted the new racks, test fit all my amps, then mounted the power distribution block. I was able to then measure and drill for all my power and ground wires.

What you will see is several holes into the air intake for the boat. I plan to run all my power lines threw here so i can get them to the distribution block and have a clean fairly wireless look. The speaker lines will be wireless looking same as my last amp racks where. Tomorrow the plan is to remove the racks clean all the fiberglass up, then remount everything again and run all the wires in place.

Yea Razz i wanted to see the read out and ive been going over it and over it in my mind for weeks whether to drill or not. Yesterday i just took the plunge and said just doo itttt. When its all said and done i hope i don't regret it. So fare i haven't regretted anything ive done on the boat but this does make it a lot more permanent as an upgrade. Although i do have some extra carpet and could always re-carpet that box lol.

I was going to steel your idea on the standoff for mounting the amps, having the studs basically, but my rack goes to fare be-hide the observers seat and i couldn't get the amp over the studs to make it fit.

This may be a dumb question so forgive me in advance. I have seen how Razz glued his stringers to the side of his hull and then is going to mount is racks to the stringers but it appears you have not done this.

How did you fix these racks without drilling through your hull?

mmandley
04-27-2011, 10:56 PM
RD yes this is just an air intake and there's another on the drivers side. It acts more or less like a ram air system system as the boat speeds up it forces more air into the rear of the boat. In actuality you only need 1 side to effectively supply air to the boat. What i plan to do it with the wires tucked in that area i will reconnect the air tube and it will still operate as normal.

Canuckle. Yes i never actually thought to mount the amps the way Razz did, wish i would have because it would prolly be a lot easier and less stressful. What i have done is when you pull the carpet back on the inside you can see the center of the boat where the rub rail is screwed into the boat. I mounted a block here to make a large mounting surface. Then i attached the top of my rack to that. Then on the bottom of the hull at the floor there is a 1inch high rib that i screwed the bottom mounting screws into.

Top of the rack where it meets the rub rail

Thanks for that Mike. I have to make a decision as to the best way to mount my amps and you just made that decision much, much easier. I think I will be copying the Razzman solution.

Thanks guys. Yes Fierah is a star at Exile, she is probably the most known Moomba running Exile. There will actually be a new video going up once Brain gets my tower in.

I have a special order coming in that he had build just for my boat. Boat has been in peaces for months same as last year and i have been taking my time as i knew the tower set up wasn't coming till May 4th. Plan is to finish all the install and reinstall my IBS system again. That was removed and reworked a bit too.

I cant thanks the Moomba Forum and family for being as good as you all are. Its still a privilege for me to share my passions with you all.

Got some more work done today on the system.

I was able to pull all the lines for the amps, power, ground, remote, and i pulled the ground for the distro block. I didn't have enough 0 gauge to run the power so that will wait till Wednesday when i go buy some.

Better shot of the ruff fit of the amp racks.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/Picture024.jpg

What a mess of wires but the Xi 800 for the cabins is mounted in the rear now. My Harpoon used to be in that location.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/Picture027-1.jpg

Peeled all the plastic cover off the amp rack now so the mirror is shinny, the power and ground for the distro block are running on the bottom of this rack, i used some wire holders, just the ground line is there right now.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/Picture026.jpg
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/Picture025.jpg

Still lots more work to do, tomorrow is mounting the second rack that holds the Tower and Sub amps, then remounting the head unit brain, the main power fuse, cleaning up all the wires.

After that is batter placement and installing the new ACR Al picked up for me when he saw it on sale. Thanks bud.

I still have to install the tower speakers.

I still have some really minor touches to finish up and i have to install my LEDs and a couple switches.
As you can see the Air duck hose isn't mounted back in place yet, i still have to fish the last power cable threw there for the distro block, then i am going to see if i can find a Y adapter and retro fit it in place to allow it to blow outside air across those two amps. If i cant do that then ill me adding an Aux cooling fan system to the mix.

Test fitting on the tower getting it all lined up before drilling and mounting.
I opted at first to make them rotate 360 but then the outside speakers were going to be set back to fare on the tube and also the Exile logos wouldnt be straight. Im a bit of a stickler for those details.

I decided since i never once spun them 360 last year that i would close in the gaps and make them all fit on the back bar and look even. I can still take them off and rotate them 180 if need be for beaching, also speakers can be roated about 30 degrees to widen the listening field.

I have the XM7s on the fare out side of the set up right now for fitting but i am not sure if thats where they will stay or not yet. It really doesnt matter for test fitting as the 3 speakers on each side are all wired together anyhow.

Thanks Al, I'm not positive im the first Moomba but im pretty sure i am. I know Malibu, Supra, and MC guys have already done this but i might be the Moomba premire lol.

Stacy, i use a cargo strap to hold the tower up. I have it wraped several times around the beam and then clamps also for double protection. I used to use bungie cords but then i kept worried they would fail. So now i only use them to hold the tower legs out of the way.

Mike - Looking good.

I know of 4 boats (including Mikes) that are building Exile Hybrid Tower setups. I'm sure some photos will surface in the weeks to come. Mike is the only Moomba in the NW that I'm aware of. But to tell you the truth, there is more dealer installs happening than I can keep track of. I'm sure you'll see some of these setups on the water soon.
