what are good boards for kids to start on?

5 Y.O about 40-50 Lbs and he has buddies up to 90Lbs (older not chubbier) that will come with us.

any thoughts?.. ive looked at the wake9 Grom board and the Phase 5 that is recommended to 80Lbs, are there others out there that anyone has experience with?

Those are nice boards to be sure. I'd look at the smaller Broadcast because it is easy to learn on and also check TripleX (lots of deals on ebay too) because they are extremely affordable.

We had the small broadcast and it was still too big.

Phase5 scamp for $200 is awesome. My 6yr old at 55lbs was freeriding last summer on a small wave (1000lbs in the corner goofy). My daughter 12yo, 95lbs freerides it great. My wife is 120lbs and can freeride the Scamp if I have a competition wave going, but will lose the pocket alot.

So the weight range of the Scamp really is IMO 40-100lbs.

Wake9 Grom board is also a great surf-style board, but hard for 50lbs or less to sink on startups. Skims don't have that problem but can be squirly with only 1 tiny fin, so it's a tradeoff. I wish P5 had a tri-fin option on the scamp.

I was wondering about the Triple X boards I've seen going on eBay for the kids too. One fin = too squirly for a beginner? I've got age ranges 8 on up and weight 60lbs to 120ish I'd guess.

It would be cool to find a skim style board small enough they can learn on but would also handle the old-fat-guy runs where we want to carve it up more than just a cruizer board.

The lake wake boards look good...and my boy would have pattern options....there aren't prices right now....what is a range on those?

sure, Daze has 2 of them, I have 4 (2 are groms) and I'll see if I can't get a few more for us to demo over the weekend.
