beefing up rear compartments for 1000lb bags

Over the weekend I beefed up the rear compartment of my '10 lsv

Added 3 vertical columns of 1 inch aluminum square tube, used 2 inch long ss 3/8th inch carriage bolts. Heated up the bolt and sunk it into the plastic. Let the plastic cool and tighten up the nuts...

Also drilled out the holes for the hinge bolts and use 1/4inch nut and bolts rather than the stock screws..

Added a 3rd hinge to the center of the doors.

They had 1 1/4 screws holding the hinges to the floor so I left them as is..

Just curious, why? Did you have an issue? Mine are still looking as good as day one, no issues even with 750lb sacks & tons of gear. The only problem i can see there is it's going to be a beatch when winterizing.

it didn't seem like the 750's have enough surface area to really impact the doors on my boat, but the 1100's put enough pressure that the pass. door blew out after 2 months..

watch the 1 1/4 screws into the floor and make sure they don't start to pull out. I didn't have any issues with the structural integrity of the actual panels(ie the braces), but the screws are not near enough to hold back all the weight when those compartments are full to the top with water.. bracing does look good :)

did you just the same screws to attach the additional hinge to the floor?

Where did you obtain the aluminum tubing?

lowes had the tubes.. yes i used 1 1/4" (size 12 or 1/4" cant remember)

nah... after i lay the doors down i can kneel om a towel down...

those 1000 lb sacs are huge and i would rather be safe than sorry

I used 1"x2"x.025" aluminum tube. Got it at Metal Supermarkets..

that looks sweet!! what year boat do you have? I have a 2010 lsv and I dont have as much room as you near the exhaust headers. That was may main concern if the walls started to bow around 1/2-3/4 of an inch they would be touching the exhaust...

Somebody help me out with some pics here. My 02 LSV has something that looks very similar to Mobi1s boat. My panels screw into the cross brace that is around the engine and across to what holds in the ski pilon. So i have an aluminum frame around the engine. What did they do in the newer models? what are the panels hooked to?

Same concept. The problem is that it's a big enough opening inside the frame that the panels can bow towards the engine, and the hinges that attach the panel to the floor can pull out. So you can add hinge in the middle, brace the panel (lsvboombox), or add a cross brace to the frame (Mobi1).
