my fiance has 2 little ones ages 3 and 5. they enjoy to tube but want to try to get them involved with the other sports while they are still young. they love to swim but when it comes to water sports they get a little scared so i don't wanna drop a ton of money in gear they will grow out of soon or may not wanna really give it a shot. last year was their first year on the boat and i eased em in easy...for you guys with kids any gear your kids outgrew your looking to part with and any pointers to encourage them to try kneeboarding wake boarding to skiing would be great.

You can get a pair of kiddie skis connected at the front where the rope attaches right to the skis. The only problem is that this contraption sprays the kid right in the face a lot of the time. My Dad removed the bindings, filled in the center, glassed it and painted it to make a kids riding board. It's very cool. I think Moomba97 actually bought something a lot like this. Here's pics of it in action. Kids love it:

This is what the contraption looked like before the mods to it:

My daughter riding and obrien fun board, also an obrien jimmy jam is real easy without being tied to the boat. Both are foam board and under 100.00

Great learning toys for the kids.

Last summer, I used my barefoot boom to teach a lot of kids how to ski. Check pawn shops for kid sized skis, that is where I got mine. The boom keeps the kids close to the boat, so they feel secure. You can talk to them clearly and see everything that is happening. They can just pull themselves up on the boom, so getting out of the water on start is easy. After they gain some balance on the skis, then you can put them on a short line (5' or so) from the boom (adjust based on spray from the boat).

You can use the boom to teach adults as well. It is even useful for barefooting.

Great idea. Craigslist and Playitagain are good too.

Four years ago I was looking for a wakeboard for my oldest grandson to learn on. Found an older CWB Sol for $50, turns out it is an excellent learners board. Now it's teaching grandsons 3 & 4 to ride and will stay around for #5 & 6!

Look for an inexpensive board in the 112 - 118cm range and cheap bindings, you can easily do both for under $150.

ok thanks guys. i bought the barefoot boom last summer and used it on our lake trip to get some of the family young and older up on a wakeboard and none of them would try behind the boat.
