Forgot to mention in my boat show post that the Pres. of Z5 was also at the show. Didn't know who he was when I was telling folks the Z5 was one of the favorite options of Moomba owners and how disappointed I was that I couldn't get one on the OBV. He gave me a big THANKS when I was done talking to the customers. I then hit him in the gut when I told him I had to go with a Monster Tower Cargo bimini.
I didn't get his card, but I think his name is Pat, and he was really cool to talk to. He was telling me of the number of parts that are machined for the Z5, I think I remember 28, so I see why they are high ticket items.
Our conversation went to the new V2 tower and he looked a little sick while having to admit that it looked nice on the LSV. I asked how he was going to make the Z5 work on the new tower and he indicated that they don't feel they will be able to do so and still make the bimini affordable. I know some will debate that it's affordable now.
The reason he gave is that the new tower would require the Z5 to go over the top. Their engineers have determined that going over the top would require some sort of rail system that would then have to tilt into the cockpit. While he didn't provide specifics, I envisioned something like a file drawer cabinet slide. I also envisioned that once it was slid backward and tilted down, you would be on the sundeck versus in the cockpit.
I also assumed that a design such as this would mean more machined parts and that's where the price would skyrocket. So, as with everything in life, there are tradeoffs with the new V2 tower. But it sure looks great on the LSV & XLV!
