Makes no sense to change oil before I put it up for 3 months does it???

Contaminated oil has acids in it that will eat bearings.Better to let it sit all winter with clean,fresh oil.

That is a good call. There are so many myths and old wives tales as to when to change oil, before or after winterization. Personally, I do mine when I put her up for the winter, that way, in spring, it's insert plugs and connect hoses, do my safety check of all high risk inspections (fuel,steering,electrical) and go. The water from any condensation contaminating the oil will evaporate several minutes into regular operating temperature. Most dealers will do it at winter set up because they will be so slammed come spring. I guess when setting up and storing your own boat, it's what works best for you. Just as long as she is winterized properly. Brian Raymond
