Am exploring vacation property to rent in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Perfect location would be right on the beach so I can watch and hear the ocean. Possible dates would be five or six days between March 26 and April 3. Need enough room to sleep a minimum of four adults. My youngest is a senior in high school and gets to pick location for spring vacation. I anticipate he will want to go south. Have checked the Internet. Seems there are lots of nice destinations along that area of the Gulf of Mexico. Anyone have property for rent?

I live about 25 miles from Gulf Shores. I don't have any property to rent there. However, you should be able to find hundreds available for rent on the ocean or if you want across the street from the beach on the intercoastal. There are a lot of condos and with the recent downturn in the economy, lots of rentals. Last year, they were hit HARD with the oil spill.
The end of March early April can be 85 degrees or 60 degrees, you never know. If interested, plan a little road trip to Pensacola, go the Naval Aviation Museum and then take a ride on the Outback.

Don't know why anyone would go there when you could go to Destin. But, suit yourself.

^^ second that general area. best vacation in the states I have taken was to panama city beach.. stay in a small townhouse, not a hi rise and the experience will be that much better..
have to try and dig out the guy's pad that I stayed in and send it. place was amazing, 2br/2ba and 2 steps to the ocean.. best thing was cheap and he negoiated on the price. as mentioned above, deals can be had if you dicker...

I agree with the guys above. That area does seem to be a better vacation spot.
I have used Brett Robinson vacation rentals to stay in the Gulf Shores area and i was happy. It served my purpose. VRBO.com is great site to find places as well.
If you have any interest in music, mostly alternative (i guess would be the genre) and can postpone those dates you mentioned above, Gulf Shores has a great music festival in mid-late May.

Except for the drive down and back from Illinois, it would be an all-Alabama trip. My son and I recently visited the University of Alabama and were so impressed by the experience that we want to visit again, but this time with Mrs. D. We were blown away by everyone we met in Alabama and the great people and athletes on the campus. It's a natural for us to then spend a few days on the Alabama coast and take in that part of the state. We've vacationed in Destin, Florida, and had a great time. So, Gulf Shores better shine. I've been looking at a lot of stuff online, including for rent by owner, and know we will find something that fits our budget and vacation lifestyle. Thanks, guys.

maxpower - Great idea. Looks like it's a ninety minute drive to the Naval Aviation Museum from Fort Morgan AL. My wife and boys are big on museums and the IMax would be a hit. Meeting you and taking a ride on the Outback would be very cool. I should know the outlook for this vacation trip (March 26 - April 3) by the end of February. Will keep you posted. Thanks. - Deerfield

Ok in case most people aren't aware the Florida Pan Handle is due south of Alabama and is locally known with another nic name "Lower Alabama". While I don't care for this name the amount of Bama tags around make it hard to argue against at times. Well next month it will be the start of Canada month and all the tags will be from Ontario. Who takes spring break in Feb????

Bahaaa, So true. We used to drive down I-75 to FLA for New Years and it was a traffic jam of the entire state of Michigan and Ontario migrating for the winter.
On Topic: vbro.com is what we use and it's been great.

Take a pit stop in Birmingham & check out the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.

We go to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach all the time! Much More of a Family atmosphere that Panama City. The futher you get toward The Florida line on Orange Beach or Perdido Key the better. Our favorite is right on Perdido Key Pass, where you can lay on the beach and watch the boats come in the bay all day! We use Meyer Realy and Kaiser Realty for Rentals and have never been disappointed. You have to Eat at "Lamberts" (Home of the Throwed Rolls) and the Gulf Steamer when you go. They will make the trip! We took our jet Ski and rode in the Bay, but that is another, "Why did we but that blankedy-blank Jet Ski" Story! (Rent Jet Ski's Instead)

Don't forget that I live about 10 minutes from the Birmingham airport and about 5 minutes from the Barber race course!! If any of you are rolling through and need a Yeungling break please stop by!! Also the lake hosuse is about an hour south on Lay lake in Shelby Shores, AL so anybody heading to the beach or the races is welcome to stop by for a beer or a pull behind the Mobius!!! I still owe someone a good day on the lake to repay the kindness shown to me by Byronkz when I was stuck in California!! He supplied the boat, beer and the gas for the day and would not let me pay for or bring anything!! I was so greatful!!!
