Well, since my iPhone 4 will not fit in any of the supplied adaptors that came with my Griffin TuneFlex Aux cradle (which I bought for my iPhone 3G), I am in the market for a new cradle that accepts the iPhone 4. I don't want to use a suction cup mount (will eventually fall off at some point) and don't want to drill any holes in the dash for a fixed mount. And I would like it up near the dash so I can conveniently manipulate the iPhone.

One idea is to use a handlebar mount like the one below and install it on the vertical windshield support pole. Has anyone gone this route and if so, how is it working out, and which mount did you get?

Thanks,

Al

I'm sure it will easily work...just have to insert a rubber type ring/grommet inside the clamp part that will hold the vertical bar. I have some spare rubber inserts that came with my tower mirror that you could probably cut to fit inside the clamp. Let me know and I can mail you a couple

Thx for the offer YDM but I have some extra shims from various clamps also.

I use an adjustible width scoche brand that you can get at walmart. I didn't use the flexible arm or the suction cup, just the cradle only. It's adhered it to the fiberglass left of the ignition using 3M command strips.

You can kinda see the mount and cord hanging from it in this pic...

Al is that the one they have at the Apple store at the mall? I was there yesterday and saw a new one for the I-4.

Claudias phone locked up and went into recovery and she thought it was toast and was pushing me to buy a new I-4 so she could have my 3GS lol.

Well its hard to see the details of yours, Als has these side arms that just keep it from falling off and then had a small foot at the bottom, it doesnt realy grip the phone. Ill let Al explain it but i was just helping out as hes busy working or something..

No wait he cant be working cause thats when hes online here LOL.

Mike,

It's not from the Apple store, I just saw it online somewhere, from Amazon I think. I ended up buying a similar one from eBay. We'll see how it works.

Brain,

I do have a similar set up as you now, in the same location, as Mike said. But mine does not secure the iPhone (or any other device for that matter) very well at all and I would like it a little higher up on the dash so I can change songs, etc, while driving.

Like i said earlier, look at the RAM mounts. They have a mount to fit anything, anywhere and they are bulletproof.

Hope you're having a great time up there! Let us know how your daughter does.

I looked at the RAM handle bar mount and didn't like it. It attaches with two zip ties (not as secured as a clamp) and it's a fixed mount so you can't adjust the angle of the holder.

The one I bought has a clamp mount that tightens with a thumb screw and has an adjustable head so I can set it just right. I'll report back once I get it.

Al - skiing was a blast. Hit the magic carpet for a few warmups and then she was ready for the lifts. Did fantastic too! after 2.5 hours of runs, she was completely spent. Spent some time in the lodge hoping for a second wind but she had no gas left. What a nice night up there... Calm winds and cyrstsl clear.

The lift operator did look at me kinda funny when I showed up in my new icelandic shaman skis.... Hehe! Great time. (15 years since I got new skis).

Looks like Mike is getting a Xmas voucher for a free trip to the Doc. Check your stocking man.... I think there's a hospital shirt in there! Or just come down to the Exile shop, we can put your knee on the CNC and see if we can fix it right up. We dont take insurance tho! Oui! :)

Kido's do make it difficult to get to the mountain or just plain do anything. Looks like WED I'm head up for a dad's trip. Heather Canyon here I come!!! Al, you around WED? Meetcha up there?
