View Full Version : Looking At Tower

I currently have a 99 Boomerang that I mostly use for wakeboarding. I realize that it's not a wakeboard boat but I don't want a boat payment and I was able to get this one for WELL below book value and in like new condition with 100 hrs on it.

Since the Boomerang is small my biggest issue is space. Three boards (one for me, my son and a friend) fill up the boat and using the ski pole doens't allow any passengers in the rear bench. A tower gives a place for the boards and opens up rear seating. Huge for space.

I am looking at this tower and I wondered if anyone has any feedback or experience with it. I don't know much about towers but this one has a lot of cool features and I will buy a bimini with it too (Florida summers are brutal).

Its the free ride tower.

I found some reviews online that were good, they were having a 3 day sale that I couldn't pass up so I ordered it.

Thats a very unique looking tower. I'm sure you will be happy, and LOVE the extra space. Their board rack is beautiful.

I sure hope so.

Right now I can only fit two passengers on the observers seat. The rear bench can't be used because the rope would take their heads off. Then the floors are PACKED with boards and equipment. A tower allows me to fit 3 to 4 on the bench, 2 on observers seat and the driver (7 instead of 3) and gives me all my floor space back.

Since the design looks to put a lot of stress in a small area I'm going to lay down several layers of extra glass in the mounting areas, then put marine grade plywood then the metal backing plate just to make sure it's sturdy. It will make the job much bigger but worth the insurance in my opinion.

I agree with the extra work, it will give you peace of mind.

Tower looks fine. You aren't going to change the value much of a '99 Boomerang so, why not-- if it's cheap? It will work to make a great season for you. By next offseason you will be looking for more wake though. I put a tower on an Outback a couple years ago. I ended up with an LSV 2 years later. Should have just bit the bullet and started with the LSV. Then again, we did have lots of good times with the Outback. Sometimes working your way up is half the fun. But it's all fun. Enjoy!

Yes, I'm definately known for working my way up through hobbies.

My issue is that I'm a single guy that has to support a home & a child on my income. I have a decent base salary but it only pays the bills, very little to no fun money. I'm in sales so I usually see good size comissions here and there but they are spotty so when I want something like a boat I have to pay cash for it. I just can't do a payment.

Right now it's just my 6 year old son and I and I haven't wakeboarded since I was a kid (I'm 33 now). I'm not a fat guy but I'm 6'4" 245lb guy, not exactly condusive to doing backflips and what not. As a single earner I cannot afford any major injuries either.

Although I enjoy wakeboarding almost every weekend I'm in a place right now where it needs to stay where it is.

Right now I hold the title on a low hour very clean boat that allows me to wakeboard every weekend. That's just fine in my book

And right now I have her torn all apart. Cleaning, fixing anything that isn't perfect and getting ready for some warmer weather!!!

my buddy has that exact same boat that we board in. I know that you already ordered the tower, but he has had great luck with the skylon pole and a boardrack on the top of it. holds 4 boards, wakeboards pretty good and didn't need any mods to the boat itself. was $100 from a local shop and $200 for the boardrack online. only downside is he has to take it apart at the ramp and assemble again at the ramp and the cables that tie around the front hook are kind of clumsy..

you have a nice looking boat, and I say it doesn't matter the ride, whatever gets you on the water :)

on a side note, the wakeboard wake is not stellar on these. keep us posted on what you do, if any, with bags. with such a low freeboard, I know you have to be careful, but a few well-placed bags might really help get some elevation to the wakes..

I actually have a skylon pole now. I don't like it at all. It's a pain to put up, mine slips on me sometimes, the racks for boards are expensive and I can't put my bimini up. Our summers in FL are BRUTAL and you need relief from the sun.

After I put the tower up I'll start looking at ballast options. My space is limited but I think people often underestimate the power of technique vs wake.

I actually saw that in the gallery yesterday but I couldn't tell what model boat and what tower.

What tower do you have? Any feedback?

I've heard some concerns about needing to remove bolts to fold towers and those bolts wearing out.

Wait, are you sure thats the right picture?

From the reflection in the mirror that boat appears to have V drive, a wrap around seat and a clear glass windshield and polished frame.

None of these a Boomerang has.

That tower is sort of minimalist and I've never liked it on other boats. I think it looks great on the smaller hulled Boomerang though, almost like it was designed for it. Nice boat!

Cham, you'll have to meet up with us next time a big group of us heads to Clermont-- lots of kiddies so bring your son.

I also just installed four Kicker HLCD's

Just waiting for warm enough weather to take her out and get some pics.

At the same time I got two 550lb fat sacks, installed four new Polk db coax's, a new Kenwood 12" sub in the bow and a new head unit and remote.

Nine speakers in my Boomerang is a lot of sound.

And let me tell you, it's been one of the longer and colder winters that I can remember.... With all new stuff to try out I've been pacing looking for some warm weather.

But I think we're getting a front through on Friday and will be back down into the 30's at night this weekend.

I'm guessing the water to be VERY cold

Worked on it a bit more last night. Everything is installed but I still have to figure out how to fish the speaker wire through the tower pipe. This part isn't going to be fun.

Other than that I am installing another accessory jack for the ballast pump and I'll be ready.

When is the next Clermont gathering???? Thats 10 minutes from my house.

I will try to get more pix soon and i think i had around $140 in the decals. i just got a aerial mirror. i hope to build a box type deal in the back seat area to put my Straight Line Ballast Bag in and have a seat made for the top that's only like 2inch thick. We trip over the bags all summer long i think that should get it out of the way and my give storage if the bags are not in use

I'll be using ballast as soon as it warms up for the first time. I bought 550 lb bags for the front & rear. Too much? Any suggestions? How did the wake change if any?

My plan was to put one in the rear bench seat area and one up front, I don't have to fill them if they end up being too heavy, but just something to give the wake a little more pop.

I don't want them in the isle ways being in the way
