I want to buy these tower speakers but I am afraid it will look ridiculous on my boat.

I am not able to find a single picture of this exact setup installed on an Outback V.

Were these tower speaker even an option from the factory for the OBV?

If there is adequate width inside the Outback tower then why would it look any different on your boat? The difference in 2 3/8 and 1 5/8 has no bearing other than getting the right collars or inserts. If that is what you want then go for it. Realizing that the Outback has a harder radius to the outside and that the Roswell drops the outside pods a bit, I've got a pretty good mind's eye in visualizing things and it looks pretty good to me.

The tube thickness is not an issue for me and I know the tower is wide enough. I am just worried that it will look very bulky.

I would also like to know if this setup was even an option from the factory. It does have quite a bit a weight so when trailering the boat, I don't want to create hairline cracks in the gelcoat at the tower base.

wear your helmet, you'll be banging your head all day unless your like 5'4" on the OBV

Yep. I am 5' 9" so I already thought about that.

The risk to reward ratio on this one is tricky. :D

Deafgoose -

With a 1.5/8 tower you should be critical of all weight going on that tower or you'll get spaghetti motion in rough water.

Do you already have the lightbar? There was a guy awhile back that was integrating XM7 HLCD's onto his tower and I think he was going to get rid of his whole bar/speaker combo. I'll look and see if I can find his info and pm it to you.

Also, I'd agree with David... If you did go with this combo, why would it look bad? And how much power are you going to run to the setup?

While we don't sell that item, we install that rig all the time for our local Moomba/Supra dealer. Those are conventional speakers and the all-aluminum bar/pods is not that heavy. Its suspended by two collars only. Have not heard of or seen a problem to date.

Yeah - I concur. I don't see why they would look any different on your boat than the pic you posted? Although i didn't have the light bar combo, last year I did have 4 of the roswell cans and it looked fine imo. I think the lightbar combo looks better than the 4 individual cans even. Not the OBV but you get the picture (pun :) )

I think with thw 1 5/8 tower you have to watch the overall weight on it. Board racks, tower speakers etc. I have two krypt 6.5's hlcds spread out for head clearance in aerial pods they weigh about 12lbs a piece. so if you going to upgrade the roswell bar to some type of hlcd's it will be very heavy almost 50 to 60 lbs, plus boards with be very heavy.

At 6'2" I would soooo knock myself out if I installed something like that. My 3 year old learned some great new words when I smacked my noggin against one of the cans this past summer. For the longest time whenver he hurt himself he would say "Son of a b----!"

Needles to say the little Mrs. was not impressed. The first time I heard him say it I was drinking hot coffee and shot it out my nose! Yeow!

My li'l brother is about 6'1" and he still hasn't adjusted to the tower cans hanging on this boat or the last one. Say what you want but not being extra tall has it's advantaages, right T100? I've never hit my head on the cans.

I found out Skiers Choice does not offer the 4 tower speakers with light bar on the Outback V as an option. Probably due to the extra weight.

I am now searching for some Roswell single can tower speakers like these:

Accept the ones listed above are more than I am ready to pay.

whats the obsession with the roswell setup with coax's, lots of great alternatives and look good as well without breaking the bank.

I would just prefer to keep everything stock looking. I am sure it will help when it comes time to sell.

Not in the boat world in my experience, people don't care. All they care about is that it has it (whatever it is) stock or not.

As an example, my last boat should have sold for no more than $9K but i had a guy that wanted it so bad, and mostly due to all the non-stock goodies, that he paid $12K for it. That's how it is in the boat market.

Also keep this in mind, the stock tower speakers sorry to say aren't worth a crap and most people know it. BUT if they see something better well then it's all good.

Interesting.

I wish the aftermarket tower speakers were not so "hardcore" looking. I really don't like the look of wetsounds or exile speakers.

The Roswell cans look like good quality but the kicker speakers might need replacing.

Then go with dual cans per side and the Kicker HLCD setup. And let me re-phrase a bit. It's not that the stock Kickers are crap, just not really applicable to a tower setup, if your looking for good sound wakeboarding those aren't it.

bullet and krypt look good in cans that you can buy yourself;)

We discontinued carrying all polished aluminum pods years ago once we saw how badly they oxidize in a season or so. The import polished pods will dull even if you wipe them down with something no more abrasive than a paper towel. Once you get behind on maintenance you've got to pull them off the tower and put them on a buffing machine to restore. Its a pain. Import chrome and powdercoating should not be trusted. I'm also not real confident in hanging heavy HLCDs from the lighter duty import collars. We all use the same import collars but in our case we restrict their usage to conventional speakers or HLCDs with lightweight Neo midbass magnets. Spend a little more and go with quality whether it be WetSounds, Exile, Kicker HLCDs or Bullet HollowPoints. Exile has a really nice all-black 6 1/2 tower coaxial and Bullet HollowPoint has an oversized 7.7-inch tower coaxial. The 7.7 HollowPoint only has a total of 8 3/4-inch maximum hang height including the collar which is about as compact of a package as you will find. And, coaxials are not going to be as demanding power wise as HLCDs which will positively impact your budget. Just a few things to consider.

i agree with this! it is a pain in the rear to keep them clean & time consuming. and it has to be done multiple times per year.

I wonder if they could be painted to color match the boat. I don't really want to paint anything black in FL.

A good domestic powdercoating is some tough stuff. There are alot of colors available today in order to match the hull color. One of my favorite looks is to use the hull color on the pods and contrast the tower finish. It looks factory only better. Add a clearcoat for extra POP.

Well, I think mine have held up pretty well. Two of the pods are in their third season and the other two are on their first. Can you tell which are which? And as far as maintenance on them, I've done NOTHING AT ALL. I do keep the boat in the garage so maybe that's why they have held up so well.

Those look pretty darn good for 'nothing at all' given that there isn't a hint of finger cheese or even a smear. But that's a nice reflection on you.

Yeah, it's kind of a cool pic. I took it for Ed G on another post to show him the clearance between the bimini and the back of the cans. I didn't even notice the reflections of me until he pointed it out :)
