Preferred oil change method?

I always changed the oil on our 2007 Outback myself using the drain hose on the bottom. Now that we have the 2010 LSV, I'm wondering if this is the best way or if an extraction pump is better. I assume I will need a pump to do the v-drive fluid anyway....

If a pump is the better method, does anyone have a good pump to recommend?

I use the seasense oil extractor. Kinda noisy but effortless. Plus i can do it right at the dock by plugging on the boat's batteries

I have a manual extractor. It takes a little while but beers usually fill in the time.

I use the Pela 6000 and it works great. I stick it into the oil drain hose rather than the dipstick tube. Below is a review I did on it a while ago.

I've been searching here all night and cannot find a past post on a "powered" pump that someone used with a power drill to suck all the fluids out.

If you're out there.........please speak up? If someone has the thread or post can you place a link to it on here? Thanks! Was planning on using that method myself :)

+1 for a pump on the end of the oil pan drain hose. I do have to hook up my hand pump because just letting it "gravity drain" will not get all the oil out. Dont even bother trying to pump up & out the dipstick tube. Total waste of time!

I use the dipstick hole and it works fine. Must be my extractor set up right for it.

That would be me. I got the drill pump from Home Depot and used a washer (yes the one you use to wash your clothing and connects up the water line) hose then got an adapter that screws into the oil drain hose. Works great but not enough time to really crack into the 6 pack. Have to do that as the engine is heating up.
Drill pump cost is about $8. washer hose was free since i had one and the adapter was like $8.

And Jester......when you have the time can you post a pic of the adapter going from washer hose to oil drain hose??

Do you still drop the drain hose out and down and let gravity work some while pumping or do you pump it straight up and out like most extractors? How messy is the cleanup of the hoses/pump and what do you do for that?

It is a tad pricey but works well/fast and I have had this pump probably close to 20 years and it still works great.

I am on the road for work right now but will try to get pic's for you next week. I still dropped the hose out the plug hole just to speed up the process and to limit any oil going over the boat. Clean up ? There was no mess. I might of used a rag to wipe down the adaptor.
