ACME 1235 Prop 14.5 x 14.25 on 2008 Outback V?

I have been running an OJ 14.25x14 for 2 years with no problems until I hit a log. The prop is in the shop getting rebuilt but I purchased a 2nd prop so that I always have a backup ready.

I got the ACME 1235 because I am tired of the growl/vibration at 8-12mph while surfing.

The biggest worry I have is the clearance for the trailer. I never had a problem with the OJ prop hitting the trailer but I never looked to see how close it was. This prop would only be 1/8" bigger on each side compared to my previous prop.

I keep my boat in the water all season. I even swapped out a prop while the boat is still in the water with some googles because its such a pain to get the trailer and pull the boat out. I don't own a truck and the trailer is stored far away.

I just need confirmation that I wont be bending this new prop when I pull the boat out in the fall. ;)

Youd think these prop manufacturers would have a database built by now with all this info. Just thinking out loud here. Interested to see what responses you get...

I called Skiers Choice and the guy could not confirm if there is enough clearance for the trailer.

Take a look at the Acme 1433. Huge holeshot, extremely smooth and quiet, no trailer clearance issues.

Just reread your post and see that you've already purchased the 1235. That's an awesome prop and you won't be disappointed with the performance. I would call Boatmate and get the shim kit for the trailer bunks though.

deaf - I shimmed my 06 OBV trailer when I went to the acme 1433 (14.25" dia) because my clearance was very small (1/4 inch) taking into account the thicker cross beam on the prop cage. I got shims from boatmate for free.

I went with the acme 1433 when I damaged my OJ. Great prop, and of course no clearance issues with a '07 OBV. I know another member, bslide, put the acme 1235 on his '05 XLV and had to shim the trailer. He has dual axel boatmate trailer.

What was your stock prop? My stock prop was a 14.25 X 14 OJ, and I have more clearance with the 1433 acme than I did with the OJ.

I have the 1235 on my boat, granted it is a Supra 21V but I have no clearance issues. I would go measure that amount of clearance that I have but the boat is in the shop right now waiting to be fixed.

Yeah, I am sure it fits fine on the bigger boats.

Dug up this old thread... so think on a single axle Boatmate with a 08 Outback I'll have trailer issues with the Acme 1433? Also how smooth is it, vs the stock 3 blade OJ? Is the stock 3 blade OJ a CNC prop? Im hatin' my current stock 3 blade oj.. I'm suspecting it of causing vibrations at low speed (under 8 mph)

When i ordered my 1235 i went and measured the clearence between the blade and the trailer, granted its a 2010 lsv so it fit fine but cant you just go measure for clearance?

^^^^ 1433 is what I am running now. Same basic deal as deafgoose same oj prop but probably a different log ;-)

When you load your boat for the first time crank the boat on rather then powering on . Then check to see how much clearance you have. I would think you will be fine but I know one guy who was close going from the 13.7 to the 14.5.

The shim-kit is only $30 (or so) + shipping, well worth it.

The guy who owned my 2005 Launch 21V prior to my buying it, hit the 1235 on the trailer when loading. Sure, there is just barely enough clearance, but once angles and such come in to play, evidently you can still whack the prop. The shim kit is only about 3/8" (if memory serves) but evidently it's enough.

Speaking of the 1235, I sent it back to ACME to rebuild and it looks great. Hasn't been used because I have the second 1235 that came with the boat. If anyone's interested, I might as well sell the second 1235, I believe it's a bit of overkill when it's only my wife and I, and we're in South Florida (low altitude).

Now today I'm curious if anyone is running a acme 422 (4blade) on their outback, and what the difference was over stock OJ 3 blade... I know the nautiques use the 422 on their 196's... and I've never been in a bad 196...

USA is your boat a DD if so the larger props won't work on it. Not enough clearance and the shaft size is different on the V-drives.

More interested in the 422 at the moment... Its a standard Nautique 196 prop...

USA I would contact Acme and talk with them directly. Let them know what you are trying to achieve and they will suggest the best prop for your boat and how you are using your boat. And most of the time if you are not happy they will let you try other props or can tweak a prop for you. I called OJ props and talked with Eric and he figured out my needs and concerns and found the best prop for my application. It also fixed all of my factory grawl and vibrations.
