I've been wanting to try one of those for a LONG time!!!!!! Just never met anybody closeby with one to try... I heard the falls hurt pretty bad too ;-)

I've been wanting to try that for a few years now. I also heard the falls can hurt bad but more of a solid impact vs ACL and foot/knee injuries like you get in wakeboarding.

How much is the initial startup cost for the equipment? How is the learning curve compared to wakeboarding?

How long did it take you to get to the point where you are flying like that?

A guy across the river from me had a gekko and he had one of these. The air he would get was just crazy! He could just be riding in the flats and pull off backflips and some other crazy moves. I want to try this so bad!

Also I watched the guy teaching newbies to do it. It didn't seem that hard. They were even jumping-no tricks though. Too bad they moved, I wish I could have went with them or borrowed it once.

You can skip the basic ones. They exist solely to offer a low price point. Most people will outgrow them quickly.

That said, hydrofoils do offer the steepest learning curve among watersports. However, it is also the most hilarious for both rider and spectator.

Hydrofoilers tend to be allowed to appear once at each wakeboarding show... and then never allowed to return. They steal the show because they offer such a visual spectacle.
