i think it's to protect the board when getting pulled up?

I like the coated because it keeps rope burn to a minimum. I know there are high quality uncoated lines too, but I'm not sure if they are the same as a coated line with the coating removed.

It keeps the rope from forming a loop anywhere near the rider in case of slack during a crash. It won't get wrapped around a limb. I'd say that it's time to make that your backup rope and get a new primary rope.

Dan, you must be doing some tricky stuff. I am justr doing w2w and switches. so hopefully removing the coating thats all friqued up wont hurt too bad.

:) No, just rope burn from when the boat driver is dragging the handle to me.

ditto on the rope burn, and it's great for not getting knots in your rope... but it also make it much harder to cut.

I got one wrapped around the prop, and it took forever to cut through it. Of course, that was with a pocket knife.
