View Full Version : 2nd Annual Sinclair Mini-Jam - July 10th

We're getting close to the big weekend, so I wanted to post up a reminder that on Saturday, July 10th we will have the 2nd Annual Sinclair Mini-Jam on beautiful Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville, GA.
This is a non-SC sponsored event, but we will have all the things needed to have a great time: a great lake, lots of bugers & dogs, cold beer and plenty of Moomba boats.
Following are a few details about Lake Sinclair for anyone that wants to join us:
located in Milledgeville, GA - 15,000+ acres of water and 417 miles of shoreline. often cited as "the cleanest lake in GA"
http://www.georgiapower.com/lakes/Sinclair.asp
Hotels are located on the West side of the lake close to GA Power public boat ramps which require a nominal daily fee. There are some rental homes available also. Check out vrbo.com.
There are a few islands on the lake that people do primitive camping on. These islands offer some great spots to hang out and enjoy the lake. They are located close to the Sinclair Dam & Baldwin County Airport (for those looking on a map)
If you're out looking for us, we live in the Island Creek area of Lake Sinclair. We'll plan to be down by the Sinclair Dam around 10:00 am and go from there. Around 2:00 pm, I'll get my grill fired up and we can get together for some fun & fellowship.
Check out some of the comments and pics from last year's event. https://forum.moomba.com/showthread.php?t=8294
Feel free to send me a PM with any questions.

Well way to go Z. And I was just thinking the other day you have been way too quiet again. Hope your back for a bit again :)
It's funny only rec or non skiers think the wake behind a VD is ok to ski with. True story about 4 wks ago on a saturday morning one of the guys I ski with bought a MC Powerstar to replace his MC BF200. The one guy threw the rope after the first pass and demanded that we take him back to get his boat and said he wouldn't ski with this guy who owned the Powerstar again until he got rid of that boat. Now the Powerstar is an older MC but was still designed as a ski boat and yet none of us could stand skiing behind it. Just imagine what this group would do behind a V!

Glad to hear you got a chance to ski. Looking forward to seeing the crew at Sinclair. I haven't skied since Sept. Might bring a knee brace and give it a go.
Shoot with the new prop you might not need that knee brace. No more going airborne when crossing the wake now!
I just hope I can find ethanol free fuel on the way up. I can get it near the house now but gas is so much cheaper in Georgia and I won't have to tow an additional 200lbs. There are about 3 gas stations that I know of in Panama City that have Huge Banners proclaiming "Ethanol Free Gas!". You almost always have to wait in line and there are always boats in that line.
I almost hate to say this but have yet to have a vapor lock issue in the LS.

I notice it when starting a L- turn the most- crossing the wake is pretty bad too, but when the R knee has twisting stress is the worst.

I don't get it, we nothing but 10% ethanol gas, I have never had a problem. I don't run regular mind you, but still never a problem.
Z your wake will get even smaller and flatter if you can get yourself up to 34. I bet at 36 the wake on your boat is the best it can be, that's how our boats were designed, but look at me talking to the engineer :)

Well you know we are flying back sunday morning from Fort Lauderdale and heading straight to the lake. Depending are where you are in Indiana you could be at the lake waiting for a ski. I trust you to get my boat off the lift and have her idling at the landing :D
Well I wish I could but my father is not so well so I need to spend some time with him.
Speaking of lifts because as soon as we get home here we are going to turn around with the boat and go to Georgia. We pulled the boat off the lift on Sunday and have her sitting in the driveway ready to go!

I thought you only drank the tea you make from the stuff in those little baggies.
You should have just brought the boat with you and droped it off at Wolfemans place in Atlanta and then just grabbed it on your way south to the Sinclair mini jam
We thought about that but it would have made it a 2 day trip to Indiana and we wanted to spend as much time with my father as we could. As it was it still took us 13 hours to get to Indiana and we only stopped to get take out and use the restroom. We also wanted to save some money so we took the wifes Jetta Diesel but we were somewhat surprised when we only got 35mpg in her car and not the normal 40+! The only difference was we installed a Class 1 hitch so we could put 4 bikes on the back of the car on a hitch rack. I guess dragging those bikes through the wind at 75mph takes its toll on your mileage!
Sled491
07-06-2010, 09:38 PM
I would absolutely believe that. The smaller diesel is great until you add something foriegn to the enviroment. Same thing with a bigger car with a smallish engine, you can sometimes get better mileage from the larger motor that doesn't have to work as hard.
Well she still got 35mpg and we didn't notice the drag and this was at 75mph. This little 2.0 liter makes 235 ft-lbs of torque and when we hit the mountains in Tennesee we had a little fun passing slower cars and trucks going uphill around the sharp turns without having to downshift. If you multiply the torque by 3 you would get 705ft-lbs of torque as a comarison to the 6.0 liter Duramax or all the other big Diesels.
The Jetta Station wagons all come with sports suspension (and seats) so they are lower and stiffer than the other Jettas. I guess that is why they call them Jetta Sport Wagons! :) :D

It was a great weekend. Actually, it was a great week. Got to hang with Wolfeman and family, Moombadaze and family, Zegm and family, and Saltyoysters even made an appearance the last day with some grom boards for the kids to try out. Did a whole lot of surfing with everyone. Wakeboarded a bit and skied with the zegms (thanks for a great pull). Watched Wolfeman and Mrs. W go from complete newbies to novice surfers. Had a real great time with lots of food and drink and fun. Kids had a blast tubing multiple times every day-- with 3 tubes at a time. Here are a few pics from my week:

We had a great time with you all and hope to see you back again next year along with some new friends! We're already talking about how to make it a bigger and better event, so mark your calendars for July 9, 2011.
Hey Sinclair Team those are some great pictures of a great time, thanks to all for your excellent photos!!!!
You were seeing the LS doing about 45mph at dusk in that one picture!
I also feel bad, our Nikon was sitting at my feet under the dash the whole weekend and we didn't take one picture! Well that just means we were having too much fun!

The kids just about ONLY wanted to tube. Why not wakeboard, ski, surf? I came up with an analogy that explains it. Would you rather have a bottle of good champagne and drink it by yourself -- or a bunch of cheap beer and drink it with your friends? Tubing is the cheap beer I guess. Fun with friends, how can you argue with that?
moombadaze
07-20-2010, 11:17 AM
good thing we all have the same taste in cheap beer with the occasional glass of champagne
Gosh how do I say this? I will admit to pulling tubes while in Sinclair, yes I did!
And this disease was so bad that it affected my own kids. How else can I explain that new Obrien tube sitting in the boat now?
Yes tubing is a Scourge that can affect all boaters even inboards!
I mean it has gotten so bad at my house that Sunday while out on the lake the only thing pulled behind the boat was this tube. I guess the last straw was when MrsZ was spotted behind the boat on the thing! There were tears in my eyes!!!
Anyone know any good counslers in the Panama City area? We need help now!

Oh by the way, MrsZ and I left the tube in the boat down on the lift! Yeah you know why, just need a few rednecks around here to see it. Nope they won't take the skies as they have no use for them, but a nice big ole fat tube. Shoot that old 24 Merc on that dinged up flat bottom boat can pull that thing!
We are waiting and watching!

Now I'm not so sure this is the kind of influence I want my children exposed to :D
Well I can say it got to mine! Now that ole 25hp Merc on that bent up aluminum flat bottom boat doesn't look so bad. Think of the gas money I would save!!!!

You could park it beside the barge and we could hang like regular red necks :)
