Temperature at 180,normal or to hot?

My temperature is running at 180, is this a normal temp to run at? My first year with the boat not sure if I need to look into this further. What temps do you guys run at? Boat is running fine. 2004 Mobius LSV.

Thanks freyse, I thought it was a little high but if your running the same I'll just keep an eye on it. Dude, have you been out on the water there in Sask? My family is original from there and still have a family cabin out side of Regina.

Had mine checked according to the dealer they have a 180 degree thermostat and this is normal. I am more used to a 160 thermostat so I was concerned too.

I have a 2004 Mobius LSV as well and it sits solid at 180 once it warms up. Thanks for the confirmation that yours is the same, this was an area of concern for me as well.

My 99 outback was pegged at 160, and my 09 21v is pegged between 154 and 164 .... indmar manual says NOT is 160

My 02 LSV, which is new to me, runs about 185. It has concerned me as well. I have it in the shop for an intermittent overheating problem, but I've asked them to address this while it is there.

From what I understand, there can be a great amount of discrepency in our guages

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of different temps... with gauge inaccuracies and water temps, air temps, boat usage i guess. Seems as long as you got a temp that it stays at, you're good. I'd be worried at 190. Mine stays rock solid at 160 once it has warmed up unless I turn the boat off right after a barefoot run.

From what i've read, indmar puts 160 thermostats in... but that doesn't mean the engine will run at 160. It can and will run warmer... should not run cooler unless just warming up. Raw water cooled runs cooler because there is no pressure in the system... so boiling point is right around 212 which you don't want to happen. Also, salt and other minerals start leaching out of the water around 180-190 and can form deposits in the cooling system.

however with new reg's coming with cat's and stuff... and closed cooling... running temps will be increased. Cooler temps make the engine run less efficiently.

Glad to see that 180 is the norm. I was worried the impeller might not be working correctly. Is there any way to test the impeller?

You can't really test it without running the engine/cooling system. Sounds like yours is working. You should conduct an annual visual inspection of it and change I think every 2 years or 100 hours or something like that. You are looking for cracked rubber or missing veins. Most change it out after a year or two and save the backup one for a spare if it looks ok. Keep it in a sealed plastic bag.

I installed a new impeller this year, she is still running at 180. The weather and water temps have been very cold here this year, no change.
