View Full Version : Storage locker arm/brace?

I have an 02' Outback and thought about putting together a hydraulic type arm/brace on my rear storage ski locker so when I open it, it will stay up without me having to hold it. Like the hood of a car.

Anybody do this?

I believe the newer boats already have these on the V-drives?

Thanks,
Cody

Should be easy enough to do. Overtons sells the parts. Go to overtons.com and search on "gas lift".

Thanks! I will need to measure this and get the right size.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, they do. Note that they use a short strut and mount it at a 45 degree angle but there are other ways to do it too. Let me know if u need a pic.

A picture would be great if you could get one.

Thanks.

Do you know if stores like Lowes, Home Depot, etc would generally have these types of gas lifts?

Auto parts stores have them for hoods deck lids etc.

I know that Lowes and Home Depot do NOT have these - I have checked.

I am going to check with AutoZone and see if one for a vehicle might fit.

My 90 Mustang Hatchback has struts that look almost exactly like the ones on my ski-locker doors on the Outback :)

Below are a couple of pics. The strut on the port side locker is how it came from the factory. The starboard side, I modified when I added the walk thru transom - I installed the strut vertically.

cab, for the longer support arm on the starboard side, what length support did you use (extended length and compressed length). Also do you know what the pound rating on it is?

Thanks
