Well, my new Chrome Logos arrived a few days ago and I am hoping for a little advice on how best to install them. Have a look a these:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Picture085.jpg?t=1276099182
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Picture084-1.jpg?t=1276099287
Now have a look at the hull on my boat:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Picture083.jpg?t=1276099287
Obviously I have a small dilema on my hands. If I place the new logos where the old logos are, I will have a gap between the logo and the hull and I'm worried about water getting in there and causing problems. So the other option is to mount them above that line in the hull. Here is a side shot with the cover off:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/DSCF0009.jpg?t=1276100020

Do you think this will look OK or should I just leave it alone? What about oxidation on the hull? When I remove the old logo will I still see the outline on the hull and if yes, what is the best way to deal with that? Personally, I think the logos above that line in the hull will still look good but I am concerned that you will still see the outline of the old logos.

Advice?

I'm not big on the new huge chrome logos either - I wish that they would have ditched the sticker on the back for a same sized 3D logo. If only you could shrink the ones you got!

If you don't mind me asking, what did they cost?

Dang Canuckle, you beat me to it! I am going to be putting my order in for these chrome letters asap also. However, I'm hoping to figure out a good way to mount them, and let us know. Especially after seeing them, I'm not sure how I'd do it.

I suppose you'd want to put some transfer tape on the outside of the letters, as they are arranged in the package, and then use a lot of soapy water, and patience. The photo of a boat with the chrome logos on it had the letters up higher than standard factory location (though they were located there at the factory). My recommendation would be to try to use that contour in the hull as the bottom edge alignment. It would place the letters closer to the contrast tone of the hull, but I don't think that I'd tempt putting them below that line, as you said, they'd be in the water.

Ian - They are around 200 per side.

the moomba at our dealer has them on. I like them on that boat, but I do have to agree with the others. your boat looks dang nice to me right now..

I love the chrome letters but wouldn't put them on your boat. Not enough contrast for one thing. I like it the way it is.

Looks good to me. i have the same boat and color scheme. have to go above the line if you do it, cuz our moombas sit low in the water.

As far as UV fading goes, you shouldn't have much of an issue. I pulled several stickers off of black fiberglass a few weeks back, and didn't have any fading issues. I also pulled some off of red around the same time, and didn't have any issues. I would just thoroughly wax the surface once you pull the stickers off. You shouldn't have any problem at all. I figure if my arker colors didn't have a problem, you shouldn't with that lighter one. I've got an 08, but still.

Oh, and just use a hair dryer to warm the stickers up. It's kind of scary how easily they come off!

I wouldn't mind some chrome lettering for the transom or a better Moomba logo. Anyone have a pic of a 2010 with the chrome package on the boat?

below the line will be half buried in the water. the line cust right through the moomba text

Right, I agree. You can't span the line like you can with vinyl and below would be under water. So above is the only real option and I don't think it would look as good as what he's got now. Bummer because the logos look great!

I Like that look too. I'm thinking that I can pull it off by moving the logo forward and keeping it above that line in the hull.

I just had the fiderglass guy do some repairs for me and asked him if he could remove all the old decals and stickers from the boat (since it was already there) ,so I could put on my new ID #. He uses a hairdryer on low and peals them off, with my boat being orange I thought for sure I would have fade marks but there were none at all and he didn't even have to wax them out.
I think you should go above the line and forward a little. I hate to admit it but I even had the guys install my new ID# decals, they were so good at installing them & quick, at no charge. That maybe an opption to have a decal guy install.....

So, your boat is now naked? Are you going to re-logo or leave it plain? These logos already have the transfer tape on them and I have that line in my hull to line up against so I am not too worried about doing it myself.

No not naked, had all the US and ID# stickers taken off, five all together and ID#'s, origanal decals still on and I have a new factory decal for the driver side I'll get installed after this year of boating.

Yeah, I think the chrome logo is going to look really nice on your boat. Ignore those haters at the top.

Once you get them on, however, you'll need to replace your registration letters up front.

These look super nice.

So nice in fact, I am going to call and ask my dealer to put some on order for me when I call in about my missing horn piece.

I saw them on the new 2010 and thought they looked REALLY good. Now that I see them on a boat, I am SOLD.

How long did it take you to put them on? Any certain process used?

I forgot to ask....Did you purchase them directly from your dealer?

Canuckle Head
06-14-2010, 11:43 AM
Yes, I bought them from my local dealer. (AWS in Oregon City if you want to call that local) So far it has taken me 2 days to get where I am at now. On Saturday morning I removed the rear logo and then used acetone to get rid of the left over glue and then rubbing compound, oxidation remover and wax to get the marks and scratches off of the back of the transom. The rear went on rather easily as I had a little more freedom in terms of horizontal placement. I did use a tape measure to center it though.

Once that one was done, I hummed and hawed the rest of the afternoon getting up enough courage to remove the ones on the sides of the boat. After about three or four beers I said what the heck and went at it. Left it overnight naked wondering if I had made the right decision or not.

The next afternoon I installed the right side of the boat. I basically used painters tape to hold the logo in place and to line up the bottom edge of the sticker to the line in my hull. I used 1/2" gap (from the bottom line in the hull) as my guideline and once I had it all lined up I simply started peeling back the bottom vinyl sheet while the painters tape held the transfer sheet and thus the logo in place. I was very suprised at how shiney they were once I removed the transfer tape. BLING!

Now to finish the other side and to get new registration numbers on order. I have to re-register the boat in Canada so it's not like I wasn't going to have to do it anyway. I think it will look even better one those white numbers are gone.

Man, that looks good. I love those letters. I like that you put it above the line. That'll be real nice on the water. I can't wait to get my on (well, can't wait for the dealer to order them for me). But nice work. I will try to tap into your knowledge for the install. I'm not 100% sure how you did it reading thru your explanation. But man, it looks great!!

I still have to do the other side so I'll try to take some pics of the process.

Canuckle Head
06-22-2010, 12:40 PM
Okay, I promised to show the install of the other side and try to better explain how I did it. As you can see from the previous photos, there is a top sheet and bottom sheet on the logo. Here is a picture of the bottom sheet:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures109.jpg?t=1277224256

Step 1 - Use painters tape to initially place the logo on to the hull:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures111.jpg?t=1277224398

Step 2 - Use tape measure to position the logo a 1/2" from the botom of the line in the hull in order to get it to sit level. The painters tape allows you to quickly reposition the logo where it needs to be: (sorry this picture is after I had finished installing but you get the idea)
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures110.jpg?t=1277224545

Here it is all lined up:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures113.jpg?t=1277224741

More to come.

Canuckle Head
06-22-2010, 12:50 PM
Step 3 - Once you are happy with the placement, lift one end of the logo and peel back the bottom sheet and fold it underneath itself:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures115.jpg?t=1277224916

Step 4 - Slowly peel back the bottom sheet while vigorously rubbing the logo against the hull to secure it:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures116.jpg?t=1277225027
Be careful that when you pull the bottom sheet that it pulls cleanly away from the logo. You can see in this picture that some of it remained on the bottom sheet. I am hoping that this one won't become a problem in the future!

Step 5 - Remove the top sheet or transfer tape:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures117.jpg?t=1277225203

Step 6 - Admire your handywork:
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww30/wedeh/Watersports/Pictures106.jpg?t=1277225350

Hope this was helpful.

Canuckle thanks for the write up man! I just got word my decals arrived, and I'll hopefully be putting them on over the next few days... at least when the weather cooperates with me. It doesn't look like too bad of an install. Was that the sticky-ness that came off a little in that one photo? They look awesome man. I can't wait to get them on my LSV.

Yes, I either pulled to quickly or for some reason a bit of the adheasive on the logo stuck to the bottom sheet. Just go slow and you should be OK. I've inspected that letter and it seems just as stuck to the hull as the others so hopefully its all good!

Thanks again for the write up Canuckle. I got one side put on last night. Took me a lot longer than it should have, namely because I couldn't decide how far down to put the letters. But I think they turned out really good. i had a few small areas where the adhesive did stick to the backing, but, not enough to worry about. I'm stoked to get the other side on tonight.

I'm pretty sure I'll pull the LSV sticker off after putting these on - I think it's a bit overkill, and will look cleaner if I do.
