Im Surfing on a Lsv 2006 with g3 ballast at 12 mph. The Ballast on the surf side is full. The front one, half full and the other one empty. The plate is up to the middle and we put all the people that we can on the surf side... When the boat is full of people, the wake is ok but when there is just 2/3 persons in the boat, the wake is not as good and not really clean...

Any suggestions on a different setup or ballast upgrade?

Thanks!

Fill the front bag all the way up. Also try the wake plate all the way up.

Check your speed with GPS first but 10 mph works better for us.

I'd guess 10mph and wakeplate all the way up, fill the front bag full to get some length to the wake, and make sure you are running at least 750's in the rear on the surfside.

As everyone is saying, 750lb rear surfside, front bag filled, wakeplate up(bowhigh) and 10mph-calibrated with gps. Put all the people balast on the surfside.

Weight in the bow really helps. Throw a couple people up front once you get bigger bags in the rear.

My LSV Setup: 750 rear (surf side), Center little less than half full, 350 in the bow (surf side), wake plate down (it add water displacement), 9.5 mph on the stargazer

My 06 LSV, we run anywhere from just 400 in surf locker and middle full to an additional 600 in front and 600 on surf side seat. Wake plate up 3/4 to full and PP set on 10.5mph. Always cleans up and very surfable.

Found out this weekend I could surf my 08 LSV with no ballast filled, just the wakeplate up and 10mph. It was kinda fun to switch side to side and get slack in the rope surfing

IMO, Once you surfed behind a fully loaded boat with a 5' hight wake by 15' long, you can't engoy anymore only getting slack in the rope.

That was a fluke thing for me to try that with no ballast--normally im running around 1550-1950lbs water ballast plus peeps onboard

What is the weight of the G3 ballast? I cannot find it anywhere...

Thanks!

in the LSV its 1200. 3 bags 400 lbs each.

in the XLV I think its more like 1900, but not sure on that one.

XLV has two 400 lb bags in the rear corners and a 650 lb bag in the front, for 1450 lbs.

Actually, the stock GIII on the 2006 LSV is 275lbs in each rear locker (16x16x30) and 400 in the ski locker (10x16x70). At least that's what was in mine. Are there any numbers printed on the end of your bags? If so, post them here and I'll tell you what you have.

Below is a pic of my surf wave. Set up is 750 lbs in the surf side rear locker, 400 lbs in the front ski locker, wakeplate all the way up, 10 mph, 2 peeps on the boat (90 lb girl taking the pic, 180 lb guy driving while standing on top of the ski locker door), about 30' of water.

Wow!!! Nice wake...

Do you know if a 50*24*24 will fit in the rear locker? It's the 1100 lbs model w719 by Flyhigh or should i stick with the 750 lbs. model?

I believe the 50x24x24 will fit but it will push against the divider panel between the engine and the rear locker so you may have to reinforce that.

As to 750 vs 1100, well, that depends. Do you have the stock GIII system? If so, you are looking at almost 20 minutes to fill an 1100lb sac (my stock system took 13:06 to fill the 750). Are you willing to wait 20 minutes? It will be even longer if you are also filling the front sac at the same time. I upgraded my ballast system so my 750 now fills in 6:00.

You can see from my pic that the LSV puts out a very surfable wave with plenty of length with just the 750+400 and two avg size people on board. Lots of people are running more ballast and plumbing in integrated bow sacs. I chose to learn how to surf with less because I don't want to wait that long and I don't want to give up my under bow seat storage. Now if you are a bigger guy, then the bigger wave will obviously help.

I have 1100's in the rear of my XLV. I also got the Tsunami 1200 pump to assist in the filling that connects to the top of the bag.

Do i have to keep an eye on the ballast when it fills so that it dosen't burst or is there a valve to purge the overpressure?

I think the biggest thing you need is weight up front. With 2-3 of us, we run a 750 + whatever will fit in a 400 in the rear, middle full and a 400 in the bow (on the floor between the seats). Last couple weekends we've been getting a nice long, super clean wake.

Wake plate is really subjective, depending on the riders, wind, etc. Sometimes I change it for a better wake even when just swapping out one rider for another, or having someone in the very back seat as opposed to the transom.

With more people, I just use the 750 in the rear, middle full and 400 up front. My recommendation for the easiest to start from where you is to get a smaller sac for up front and pile all of your people in the back. I havent had good success using people up front. Weighting the front will increase the length of your pocket or sweet spot, making it easier to get longer runs.

It may be illegal, but if not, getting someone right on the transom makes a pretty big difference.

About all of us have been frustrated with the wake for one reason or another. You just have to have some good ballast available, people that are willing to move around for wake and time to perfect it.

03' LSV - I run 750 lbs in the center, 350lbs on surf side in the locker, another 350 in the surf side (just laying in the cockpit) and load the bow down with another 200. Money. It takes a while to figure out where to place the weight but once you have it dialed in your good.

The 1100 sac has two connections on top of the bag. One is obviously a fill the other can be a second fill and/or vent overflow. Using my stock pump and having the Irritrol sprinkler valves I can fill the 1100 to the point of overflow in under 15 min which I think is very reasonable considering it is the stock pump using sprinkler valves. I do have a Tsunami 1200 pump which I can assist in the filling/draining of the 1100. With the extra pump it fills the 1100 easily in 6 min.

And with the original G III syst?

When the sac is full, water is forced thru the drain pump and out the drain fitting on the side of the boat. That's how you know it's full if you are not watching the bag.

da man,

With your Irritrols, do you have the manual lever in the "ON" or "OFF" position? I am guessing you have them in the "OFF" position since you are using the valves to direct flow. I found that in the "OFF" position, my Irritrol valve would only open for a few seconds then close and would not let water thru. Are you not experiencing that?

Sorry for the hijack.

And with the original G III syst?

Yes, with the 08 GGIII system (replaced with Irritrol 700 valves which made a nice reduction in fill time) and the Tsunami 1200 external pump, one 1100 sac being filled can be filled in 6 min. With just the stock pump and filling only one 1100 sac, fill time is no more than 15 min. I'm finding that the stock GGIII system with the Irritrol valves is not that bad at all. Once the center is filled early in the day I only let out a little here and there so there's only the need to fill one rear bag a time so fill times are not bad. When wakeboarding I only have very little water in any of the sacs because the XLV already has a big wake.

I'll double check Friday but I believe all my Irritrols are in the "ON" position and are functioning perfectly. I'll try to take a pic of the switch position.

I think the "ON" position means they are always in the open position, i.e., the solenoids are being bypassed. "OFF" means they are normally closed and opened by the solenoid when energized.

I know, but I think that's the position my switches are in if I remember correctly. I'll double check and let you know. Either way, my Irritrol valves are working flawlessly at the moment.

Definitely go with the Jumbo Surf Sac on an LSV or XLV. It's marginally more expensive, but you get a significant increase in actual weight added.

Even if it's not completely full by the time you're ready to ride, it's going to be just as full as any other capacity bag would be, and you can continue filling while riding, which is only going to improve the wake.
