X2 for watching out for Limewire..... just don't bother with that site, you will eventually get screwed.

Might sound stupid but ask a DJ. My brother works for a DJ business and I asked him if he could copy a few songs for me.....He did, 734 gigs worth of music. Saved me the hassle in getting a virus or downloading.

Not free, but I just use iTunes on my iPhone. So much easier, and with the SoundHound and Shazam applications I can hear a song, and buy it with the click of a button. Super sweet.

I like mixes and they are free all over the internet. Just google DJ mixes, mashups, house, etc. There is a lot of great stuff out there, its all free and legal.
This guy has all kinds of stuff, from country mixes to house, etc. and they are close to an hour long so you don't have to keep searching for music. 4 or 5 mixes and the day is covered. "Save a horse" is my favorite country mix here. http://djbrianbass.com/

There is some top 40 stuff and mashups of different top artists. "United states of Pop" is my current favorite here. http://djearworm.com/

A collection of dj's and there music here, http://www.beezo.net/
Just sift around, there is a little bit of everything there.

Warning once you start listing to dj mixes, you become slightly addicted.

I've been using Limewire for around five years and never got a virus or anything. The key however is a good virus program that scans downloads. Mine will show a virus within seconds of starting the download and then kills the download. So to date i've probably downloaded over 3,000 songs from there.

Right-click a link to the mix, and choose "save target as..." then choose a folder to save it in. Some of them took me a couple trys because it only saved the first few seconds, but I eventually got it.

After all the mixes I've listened to today since being sucked into this... I'd agree that there are much better ones out there than BrianBass. I couldn't, however, find anyone else who put together a halfway decent country mix (for the wife of course).

Check out www.mixcrate.com (http://www.mixcrate.com) for a very large selection of DJ's and their mixes. You can search by genre, which is how I found some good Rock, 80's, and current Pop mixes.

Let me know if you guys know of any other good rock or country (for the wife) mixes.

Thanks

OK... I'm 14 continuous hours into this newfound love of "mixtape music" and I have found my absolute favorite mixes.

All 80's music with a very few new jams mixed in and kept nice and clean. This guy is from my area and has a show on a local radio station. Anyone out there over the age of 30 will LOVE these two mixes!!!!

2080s pt. 1 and 2080s pt. 2

I'm done searching for a while. I've hit the jackpot here.

I get my songs from amazon mp3 download. You are going to want to test the "feed the animal" album since it is the most recent.

It is pretty much a collection of the latest hits mashed together along with some older 80's stuff. Mostly to a hip-hop beat.

Amazon lets you preview the first couple seconds of each song, not sure how much justice this would do it though. Try youtube.

How are you guys downloading these hour long mixtapes? When I try it saves about 41 seconds and thats it. Do you need to save in another form then convert it to be able to play in Itunes?

Well im not Newty...

I had no issues getting the stuff in my Itunes.

What i do is download the song. Goto my Download folder to locate it.

On my Desktop i made a folder called Mike Mixes. I put all my downloaded music in there.

Open ITunes and on the top you can goto inport Folder. Select the folder on your desk top and it will upload it. Then i toss the song in a folder on Itunes and sync that with my I Phone.

Thanks Mike, i was right clicking on the song title, not the download button and itunes was linking the address, not copying the whole file, therefore it would not copy to my ipod. finally got it.

Thanks again, better than Newty LOL:p

DJ Octane on Beezo.net has the best mixes I've heard on any of the mix sites. A nice plus is all his mixes are free from profanity. I promise you, people on other boats will ask you where you're getting your mixes. When I pull up to the sandbar on my lake some of the regulars just turn off their stereos.

Newty, you'll probably like DJ Enrie's club mixes, not his house mixes (alittle too electronic for me). He has better ratings than DJ Octane but it's a different genre. DJ Atwill has only one mix and it's the cat's ass. He goes from current Hip hop, pop, and throws in Michael Jackson, AC/DC, The Outfield, Lady Gaga, and others.

A bit of a different way to skin a cat, but if you have cell service and a smartphone with an unlimited data plan, I recommend using Pandora

http://www.pandora.com/#/

You can type an artist or song in the search engine and then it will play similar music all day long. This will prevent you from getting tired of "your" music on your ipod. I have used this site all day on my BlackBerry Touch, and it works pretty good.

Pandora is not bad at all but if you've listened to it long enough, there's a pattern to their playlist.
