On my '99 Outback, there is a slinky like black hose in the passenger side storage area. Not real sure what the purpose of this is, but it looks like air is forced through it via an intake on the dash to supply air to the engine compartment. Well, upon putting stuff in the storage area, the slinky like hose fell apart. Should I replace this or leave it be? There is a hose like this on either side of the boat right behind the dash.

Definately replace it, it forces air into and helps vent fumes from the engine compartment. Just go to any marine dealer or supply either local or online and order bilge hose in your size, it's probably 3" and it's very cheap.

Polar,

You r right - that hose forces air into the engine compartment to help purge it of gas fumes. I would replace it. It's called 3" bilge hose or blower hose and your local boat shop should have it. Pretty cheap stuff.

I make my daughters send text messages for me. It's amazing how fast they can do it. Then again, one sends about 3,000 a month and the other one close to 5,000.
