No, man. Aqua just had me disappointed and then confused. I was looking for his "future wife and boat" in the picture background. All I saw were leaves. So re read his post. Think I got it now. He's gonna get married. Just not sure if there will be a new boat or, as I said, some package deal. Too much time on my hands tonight.

I am sitting her about to reply to this and I hear a bass boat going full song on the lake behind me. If you saw this lake you would think what I am thinking right now, pitch black, zillions of cypress stumps...... what an Idiot!

You know the guy was still going around the lake behind the house for 30 minutes after I wrote that. Maybe I was being too mean and the guy knows where he is going. I just wouldn't even go out there at night. If you take a spotlight and shine it across the lake you sell a bunch of yellowish eyes! Wait maybe that was why he was going full song!!!

sandm

man, same story. used to average between 60-70 rounds a year and had a 16.2 handicap. since I bought the boat, I play maybe 4-6 rounds a year and rarely shoot over 84, so I'm sure that i'd be around a 12 handicap. played sunday for the first time since september and I felt it for 3 days tho :(
have to say that I do miss it and it's strictly a financial thing for me. $30 for a round at a nice local course here walking vs gas in the boat.... it's a no brainer for me now... sad thing are that we have pga quality courses here for $30, similar to bethpage and no waiting.. miss the walk. it was good exercise and fun to laugh at the lazy arses riding..

I don't think you'll ever be too old to ride. that's what makes surfing such a great sport.. I figure that once I do hit that golden age when it's painful to get on a board, that's why they invented pontoon boats. great way to still enjoy the water...

Kaluah..........yeah I like that stuff! We didn't notice that color so much while we were out there but it sure showed up in the pictures! However, nobodies swim suits turned brown or anything so it wasn't so bad.
Now on to the camera issues, we have some more pictures to post but with these new camera's (Niko D60) you end of just holding the button down and when you get back you have almost 400 pictures! Sure this beats the 24 shots the older cameras would take but now you have to sit down and edit what you want and what you don't want and this takes a good bit of time. But anyway more pictures to come as we have some nice air shots of both the kneeboard and the wakeboard.
On to surfboards, he has mastered this one and likes to play going up and down the wake and crossing over to the other side and back. What does anyone suggest as a more advanced board?

He will get to try out quite a few boards at Sinclair in July. I'll be bring my 2 broadcasts and hope to bring the yellow board that was won as a price at the tampa jam-sorry just dont remembe the name of it.

As it's a price point board I doubt it would be too advanced. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to try it.

I want to also say that I surf behind an Outback and my first board was a G3 from Walker Project and have never been disappointed or felt that I had a board too advanced for me. My 10 yr old son started surfing on it at 8 and has never had problems either. Heck my 280lb buddy started surfing on my WP board.

Point I'm trying to make is that thinking you need some lamo beginner board to start out with is not necessary. Don't think that some super fact skim is the way to start either, but don't be afraid of a little better board to start either

Waynes345

OK, I was just about to pull the trigger on a Broadcast for us to get our feet wet in wakesurfing. Are you calling that a lamo beginner board? Should we skip to something else? Everybody that will be trying is athletic and skilled in a variety of sliding sports.

sandm
05-17-2010, 04:29 PM
I rode my entire first year on the broadcast and still ride it every once in a while. it is a real easy board to teach beginners on and I would not be afraid to recommend it to anyone starting out. seems that most keep it around to teach/train noobs on once you grow tired of it and want a faster board. there will always be either beginners or that lazy day when you just want to ride the wake and don't feel like carving up and down the face :)
although it will never spin like a skim, you can also remove a couple of fins to "loosen" it up a little...

viking
05-17-2010, 04:43 PM
And I think the CWB Ride is much like the broadcast too! Hear good things about it as the same type of board! I don't have either yet but alot of reading posts :)

Sled491
05-17-2010, 05:00 PM
I'm just saying you spend 2 - 3 hun on a beginner board, maybe you find a good used one or a clear out, but in a year or even less your board with it or have outgrown it. For a little more you get a good if not great intermediate board and you can stick with it for a couple years. I mean I'm not lying when I say that everyone that I have taught behind my boat has done so on my Walkers Project which is a very respectable mid to high end board. All had smiles and all got up.

[QUOTE

Seeing how right now my son and the wife are the only ones who surf but we all ski, kneeboard and wakeboard during the same outing I am not sure about adding more ballast. If there was a way to do this without taking up any room in the boat I would be receptive to it. But again we purchased this boat to have more room than our old MC had and to do all the water sports we love. I never will forget the Outback I saw a couple of years ago that was close to sinking and how everyone has to climb all over these sacks, when I think of that I think I just need to put my Proline in the lake if we just want to surf as it has a huge wake and I wouldn't have to do anything, heck it even has a potty on it. :p
Again if we were just surfing and wakeboarding I probably would have just gotten a V-drive. Now I could sacrifice some room in the middle ski locker if that would help? Would just have to find a place to put the pairs skis or teach my daughter how to slalom (which is on the agenda this year) and we could get rid of "her" storage space.

Sled491
05-17-2010, 07:17 PM
Well Z the center ski locker is where one of the GIII bags would go, but for surfing you do need to get the boat to cant one way or the other

zegm
05-17-2010, 07:44 PM
You know at this time I just ain't there with another bag of ballast. Maybe I would install a trim tab on the other side (starboard) and jack that side of the boat up. :p

Got to ask-why havent you tried surfing yet ?

I did try it once but it just didn't do much for me. My favorite thing used to be slalom course and it still is pretty high on the list but I also love to kneeboard. You know it is easy and relaxing and I can carve on the wake. My problem here is I had minor knee surgery a couple years back and now it hurts to bend my knee like you need to kneeboard. I guess I need to do some stretching exercises.
And OK maybe I need to give the surfing another shot. To be honest the last couple of years I just love driving the boat. I have spent so many years on the water that the thrill isn't what it used to be.

I just finished my 40 dose box of Claritin-D. I never had any problem until my late 40's and the last few years I've had issues every spring. When the whole itchy, watery eyes, runny nose stuff starts to happen, I crack the C-D open and take them for the next month. I'm usually good after that with the occasional need for a tuneup. Hope you're feeling better soon, especially since the late July weather hit us here in the mid-west yesterday. 92 here today.

I too, must take claritin daily, along with nasacort spray. Zyrtec & Singulair didn't do a thing for me, although they work good for some of my kids.

I must warn you, be careful taking decongestants daily, as they cause sphincter muscles to tighten and not relax. I'm talking specifically to guys, and not referring to your rear end, although that could happen I guess. It can cause painful urination & sex. The urolgist says they prescribe decongestants to people who have just had surgery or have trouble with leakage....crazy huh? Unfortunatly I spent a lot of time, money, and pain to find this all out...

I got a kenalog(sp) shot and it changed my life. I was taking a fist full of benadryl everyday. but one shot in the butt all that is gone and I can breath around a camp fire and sleep at night. They should put it in the water.

Keep pugging away it will feel better. It is good it is your back leg, it is usually better position to protect the ACL during riding.

I wrecked my knees years ago, both. I have a similar brace, carbon fiber with custom paint job, 20 yrs ago it cost 1500.00! I hate wearing it and in fact haven't in a long long time as it makes my leg feel tired. I know some day I'll pay for it and every year I manage to hurt it at least once really bad but the way I see it I don't have many years left anyways :D

Gus.
Man I had to have the microfracture surgery later and that was causing a lot of pain and weakness until I had that surgery. Since that I just go nuts right away. It feels good. I strengthen it like crazy. I spend a lot of time doing balance things and strengthening my hips so that it does not happen again. To get used to taking the hits I would run to the park and jump off of a picnic table and practice landing on the ground with good form. I have a friend who blew up his knee about a year before me and when I was sitting at home being depressed he said the best advice I have ever received "Only sissies make it through life without blowing up a knee." Hehe. Just keep plugging away you will get comfortable again. I think you need to really build up your balance, i.e single leg activity, and strength.

I remember once in high school when it was cold out, and I didn't want to get in the water, so I did a dock start, just hopping off when the rope was about tight. That would be pretty cool to do. Especially up here in Indiana in October when I'm still out on the water with no Drysuit. I was out last October with nothing but a shorty wetsuit in 55 degree weather because I wanted to learn to wakeboard before going to Iraq.

Zegm - Let's hear details. Distance. Time. Challenges. Best part. Worst part. Brand of bicycle. Transitions. Etc. Etc. Etc. And by the way, that is FANTASTIC! - Deerfield

It was a USAT Meet. We did the Sprint Version, .35 mile swim (about 600 yards), 15 mile bike and 5k (3.2 mile) run. We started training in June when MrsZ bought her a Fuji Finest 2.0 bike and I purchased a Cannondale CAAD 9 -6 bike. I love the Cannondale, it is the most comfortable bike I have ever owned. We signed up for adult swimming classes at the local college during the summer and have been swimming 3 nights a week. The instructor is helping us with endurance and freestyle. Poor MrsZ can smoke me in the pool but her excitement level was so high during the swim she couldn't catch her breath and ended up swimming most of it doing the sidestroke (today her hips are killing her). It was our first ever meet and the intention was not to worry about what place we finished but to get experience doing it for the first time.
The swim was wild as there were hundred of these Large round mellon shaped jellyfish. They do not sting but when I was swimming I kept thinking I was hitting another swimmer in the head and when I looked it was these jellyfish. I shattered my average speed on a bike but I paid for it during the run ( I use a Garmin 310XT but did not look at it during the ride so I didn't know what pace I was going (20mph)). I could hardly walk when I got off the bike. I had to walk the first mile of the run before I could get my legs to cooperate with my brain.
The transitions were where I did the worst, I was way too slow but again I wasn't sure exacty how to proceed. Like walking the bike out of the transition area before you can mount them, trying to go fast but at the same time trying to catch your breath and put your shoes on.
Would you believe a 78 year old man finished in 19th place out of 120!!!!
All and all it was a blast and we are going to recover and sign up for more!!! I just need to practice more Bike to Run bricks!!!

Dude that is awsum. My wife used to love those sprint events.

I agree the transitions are the biggest learning curves. Special shoes, one pc no change Tri suits, etc, etc. Women need to learn to pee in the grass as there putting on there shoes and things like that. You can call it gross but a triathalon is zero wasted time and energy. Gel energy paks at the tansition is another lesson learned. Giant bottles of water can cause stomach problems.

My wife used to have problems with the swim, she didn't like all the swimmers bumping into and sometimes running over her, it really freaked her out

she's not alone.

I know very well conditioned triathletes with loads of experience that get freaked out with the swimming mayhem.

If your clausterphobic, it's all over.

Z, with all that bragging about how hot weather doesn't bother your training, I hope you managed to pull in somewhere around 1:30 - 1:40. That would be a good time for a rookie

Oh, checked some results

your last name Crowder and your actually from Youngstown, Fl?

I had no idea you are 52 years old. Pretty soon you'll be older than me :)

For an old fart, you didn't do too bad. Congrats!

Man, that 78 year old guy blew your doors off!
Thanks!
I was concerned most about the swimming but when I got out there I let everyone go first and did not have any issues other than the jellyfish. I did manage to pass a few folks there but again it was to be a training experience so the goal was to finish.
According to my Garmin 310XT I wasted about 8 minutes in transition!!! It won't happen next time as I now have an idea of what to do at these events. I should have gone and watched one in the past as we have several in this area but I never did. No one can guess my age but at the event it was written on my left calf for all the world to see.
That old guy blew the doors off alot of people!
The top female was 42 years old!

Ask her how to make the legs work after riding the bike. When I jumped off the bike I had to hold on to it like a walker, I couldn't even stand up! And to be honest I hurt my left knee about 3 weeks ago, went to the Doctor and had an MRI and will find out Wednesday if I tore my meniscus again. So I haven't done any riding or running only swimming since then. The doc said if it doesn't hurt then I could do the event but not to practice any. Luckily it didn't bother me during the event, the 1000mg of Tylenol helped!

Those jellyfish zegm was talking about caused a scream fest while the women were swimming. They scared me to death! The screaming women, not the jellyfish. One woman cracked me up totally. She kept screaming and then apologizing. She probably did it at least 5 times. What a silly girl! :)

Z and Mrs Z - I had a good laugh reading about your tri experience. Pretty much everything you described, except the jellyfish, I discovered in June at my first tri, so felt like I was reliving it as I read. Yup, the bike doubles as a walker. Yup, transitions took wayyyy toooo long. Yup, lots of bodies in the water at the same time fighting for the same space. Yup, who has time to look at a gps when you are just trying to keep from getting passed. Yup, on the run it comes real natural to want to just find a shady spot, stop, sit down, roll over, and close your eyes. Again, congratulations on DOING IT! It was great to read your post. Thanks! - Deerfield

Deerfield,

It was so nice to read your post to find out that MrsZ and I apparently had a normal rookie First Tri experience!
Funny thing, yesterday we were online searching for our next Triathlon! Seems like we might be doing another one in a couple of weeks. I think we are addicted now! I was even looking online for Aero bars to put on the bikes!!!! :D

Cool! My brother was the first guy to beat Palmer in BoarderX at the XGames and Gravity Games. He won the world cup back in 2007 and is a 2 time Olympian. I think he also has the most World Cup medals of any Canadian bordercrosser. Should have won the gold in Torino. He qualified fastest and was the man to beat till a guy from Poland crashed into him and took him out in the first race.

He's starting to feel old (he's 36) and is thinking about retiring. He was dissapointed with his performance last year at the 2010 Olympics (crashed in the quarter finals and placed 10th) so I think he want's to finish this year on a positive note and then call it good.

You cant see benzene. :-) I was in PCB a few weeks ago. Your beaches definately look beautiful. Gulf Shores got a little messy there for a bit, but the cleanup crews have been doing a great job.

It doesn't get much better than spending time with the family. Early morning runs are always the best. Flat water, the cove to ourself, except for a couple p.o.'d fisherman. This was in our Dixie earlier this year. Can't wait to tear up the water this spring with our new Mobius LS.

Yep. These pics were behind our Dixie 4.3 v6 earlier this year. The tower helps with slow starts and you need all the help you can get with the Andy Maple ski (the beast). It also helps with no slack in the rope when cutting. The Dixie counter pivots a lot when cutting hard. Great ski wake though.

I would recommend doing a little research regarding slalom from the tower. Everything I have heard says that is a bad idea - structurally - for the boat.
