So summer is just around if this dang cold weather would go away and well I wanted to see if people out there would like to do a MiniJam in Oregon. I do not see one on Active's calendar so I wanted to put it out there and ideas on where to have it and dates. I have listed a few places just to see your thoughts.

Detroit lake about 2 hours from Portland
Foster Reservoir about 2 ish hours from Portland
Fall Creek about 3 hours from Portland
Cougar Reservoir about 3 hours from Portland. (No dock but that limits the people on the water.)

Ill do what ever location you like. I prefer Fall Creek as its the best one i have been to so fare. Lots of legs to hide away in and be out of the afternoon wind.

I spoke to Gerry O at AWS and he said May 22 is Demo days.

He also said he should have a date for the June Reuinon tour this week sometime.

Ill check with him next week Monday

Never been to Fall Creek, but I have heard that Foster is amazing and it doesn't get very busy.

Honestly Foster isn't that great, 20 more minutes north and you can be at Green Peter, the water is always warm and there are lots of fingers to get away from crowds however, keep in mind this lake is more primitive. Detroit is centrally located so people from around the state dont have to drive as far. There are also two marinas and plenty of overnight accommadations. That being said, as long as there is water I will be there.

Oh wait thats right. Thats what I was thinking of Green Peter not Foster. Do it at Green Peter!

We love Detroit and it is where we go most of the time but it can get blown out and busy. Green Peter would be a blast. What about Lake Billy Chinook?

We could get AWS (or we could chip in ourselves) to rent the party barge from the Cove's marina and we could use that as our base. I know it is a long drive but KT did it last year and spent the night at local Hotel and he said it was a blast. We go over every year for a 4-6 day stint and we stay in the Cabins. We are going again this year.

Anyway pick a place and people will show up

Robert,

We have two of the cabins rented at Billy for 4 nights over Memorial Day weekend. Can't wait.

I also have been meaning to get out to Green Peter so that would be my first choice. But I haven't been to any of the places jester mentioned so I'd be up for seeing a new lake and of course meeting up with fellow Moomba owners.

I have not been to Green Peter before. I know some people that are at Green Peter a lot over the summer and i will ask them how the lake is. Detroit is big and lots of places to camp but at about 10 AM the wind starts to pickup and the middle of the lake becomes useless until about 5PM. You might be able to find a place to wakeboard in the airms if they are not full.

I boated on Lake Billy Chinook 2 summers ago with the Old Supra DD. It was a good time. Spent a long weekend with friends and others at their cabin (if that's what you call it)? Really just camper trailers set up on land that they have :) Wish it was closer :(

I prefer Yale to Merwin as Merwin has a Public boat limit due to the private camp grounds.

Yale is also warmer

Yes they are in Washington. They are just north of Battle Grounds up by Amboy. No we dont need warm water but Yale is drained from the bottom into Merwin and this makes Merwin much cooler then Yale.

stretch,

I think you are confusing Labor Day weekend with Memorial Day weekend? We wil be there in May. Have you stayed at the cabins before? They are pretty cool and the best part is that you can rent a slip at the marina for your boat for like $10/day and it's literally about a 30 second walk from your boat slip to the cabin.

Any dates for this been worked out? Do we have a party planner? Need to get some dates hammered out so people have time to make sure they are off work.

Not all of us get Saturdays and Sundays off naturally, or is it me that is the only one who is forced to work Saturdays? LOL

jester
04-26-2010, 12:15 PM
Yes dates would be good. Sorry I started this ball then got side tracked and dropped it. Lets get the body of water set first then we can get a date going. I think we have four good options for a place to hold it. Let me know if another places is a good option. I did not add green peter since i was told there is no docks.

Lake billy (outside of bend to the West)
Fall Creak ( outside of Eugene to the East)
Detroit lake ( outside of Salem to the East)
Yale (Wait this is not in Oregon North of Battle Grounds)

I vote Fall creek mainly because i love this water, lots of fingers to avoid wind and it has nice ramps.

Billy Second as i haven't been there im told its awesome but does get blown out in the Pm.

Yale third as i know this place well too, good ramps lots of parking but it also gets windy in the mid day.

Detroit forth as i haven't been there no thoughts.

Im willing to travel to any of these locations just need to know when. I'm thinking July is best as at least by then most all of the rain is gone and we have consistent warm temps.

Sounds good to me. I've never been there, but have heard good things. Are we going to do a day trip or weekend camp? I'm sure you will have to make a date and hope everyone is available. It's next to impossible to accommodate everyones schedule.

mmandley
04-29-2010, 01:11 PM
I can do a day thing or a camp deal. Both work for me. Make it in July or later i will be there. Even if i have to call sick on Saturday lol.

Anyone that needs a little space to bring gear let me know if it fits in my truck ill bring it down for you. We generaly hardly have anything in the bed of the truck so we got lots of room. I know some of you with families have to store a lot of gear and id be happy to haul it for ya.

jester
04-29-2010, 01:40 PM
I think we could do a mix of both camping and day. The people who want to come down a day early or night early or stay another day. Then people that just want to come for one day could do that. Even with the lake this close to my house I would also camp if other people where going to camp.

For dates I think late July or early Aug would be good. Water will be a nice warm temp of 75* and all the sticks in the water should have made their way to the shoreline.

Thats a long old drag for me. Question... Why not meet up on the columbia?

Besides Fall Creek is really sweet and my misses isnt real fond of rivers, of any sort lol.

Mike, You crack me up. I do not know what is up with these Portland peeps and rivers. Guess the only good part of a river is if you head up stream in the morning then if you break down you will end up back at the boat ramp. I also thought the Columbia gets really windy during the day?

Idk i think its the fact we have so much river water here vs lake water.

Yes the Columbia can get really windy, i have been told by a lot of people don't even take a wake boat to the Columbia unless you have a really good anchor and some serious skills as the water current can make it a real pain to dive.

I grew up on a river. I think lakes are kind of confining. I like the chain of lakes thing though where there is somewhere else to go -- and the huge lakes with fingers where you can hide.

I try to plan vacation for the weekend after the 4th every year. Every idiot has to be out on the 4th. They are either hospitalized or in jail right after that so you have an idiot free lake the following weekend. Enjoy!

Jester, I can't make it during the days Al suggested, July 10 & 11 we wil be at Foster Lake for a four day weekend. Just pick a date and we will see if we can make it work out if not there is always next year.

P.S. what about throwing out the invite to the AWS guys to just come and hang out with us. They might like a chance to go to an event like this if the could just be part of the crowd and not be "on duty".

jester
04-30-2010, 03:16 PM
The 10th and 11th also do not work for me since i will also be on Foster but doing Coast guard Aux stuff. I like the 3rd weekend in July. The is the 17th and 18th.

Jester the 3rd weekend of July sounds great. I will have to look you up on the 10th and 11th at Foster. We go up there on July 8th for four days with our Sunday School Class. We get a group of about 120 people and we are only one of about 4 boats in the group so lots of shuttling people around.

May 1 to September 30
Tent site: $19

So it looks like they have 2 camp grounds. They have Cascara Campground: Campsites are first-come, first-served. Open May 1 - Sept. 30. 42 tent, maximum site length 45 feet. 5 primitive. Vault toilets. And they have
Fisherman's Point Group Camp: open May 1 - Sept. 30. 8 designated sites, 16 vehicle maximum. Maximum 8 people per site. To make reservations for Fisherman's Point, call 1-800-452-5687. Or there allways Foster Lake. They have camp grounds, cabins, and much more... You can check it out at

OK i have Claudia checking into the camping stuff today. Also i have her getting how many spots are there for that Saturday what times we have to be there by and be gone by.

I gave her the link to Foster and she will look into those as well. If the camping looks more promising at Foster then we will need to move the jam there.

I wish i would have known i was being elected for this a month ago when this thread started. If we want to start doing this each year then i can run the deal but i need more time notice LOL.

I won't be able to go to Fall Creek since we will already be at Foster with our Sunday School group (I had the wrong weekend marked on my calendar). If you decide to change to Foster remember it is a smaller lake that can get crowded. On a plus side it is only about 15 minutes from Green Peter and so you could camp at Foster and drive up to GP if you wanted to.

Here is what ive found out. Ok Claudia found out.

Fall Creek:

· They don’t do reservations
· It’s on a first-come, first-served basis=
· $19 per night with 1 vehicle

Detroit Lake:
· They do take reservations
· Only 4 campsites available now
· These sites are away from the water but still relatively close
· Campsites are by the highway so they are noisy
· $19 per night plus $8 service fee per site

Foster Lake:
· There is an RV park (Foster Lake RV Resort) with 3 cabins across the street
o http://www.fosterlakervresort.com/photos.htm
· Cabin fees are $58 per night which is for two people
· Fees for additional people are $5 per person.
· 5 people max per cabin
· The resort will make room for boat trailer parking
· All cabins are available for July 17 as of today
· Reservations require payment of the first night’s stay up front

· Cabin does not have running water – there are bathrooms/showers in the facility
o 1 Queen bed
o 1 bunk bed
o 1 small bed

Sunnyside Park:
· Park by the lake
o http://www.campingfriend.com/SunnysideCountyPark/default.asp?file=Home
· No tent sites available for overnight with 7/17-7/18

Unfortunatly none of those realy work for me and Claudia as we have to bring our dogs. Even though they are kennel trained and indoor dogs we cant even get the cabin.

Our backup plan is we can just get a motel room and stay there Saturday night. This way the event can still happen and we will be there for both days.

Now its time for everyone that realy can make it to post up. This way i have an idea of how many peeps are going and then we can see if we can get some events laid out.

Yall are very welcome. Just let us know what the final plan is. We are just going to get a motel because of the dogs. I figure my crew will pitch in and it will be about the same as the cabins.

One note about those cabins is Reserve them NOW. They fill up fast.

Also second not is they are primitive cabins. No running water no bathroom in the cabin. Outhouses i believe.

You need to call asap and pay the fee for the cabin, 58 and they will charge you the 5 per person when you check in.

Also tell them you will have a boat, they have room but wanted advance notice when she called.

Gotta hand it to Claudia. She has been internetting this to death and she found more stuff.

Foster Lake

* Edgewater RV Resort & Marina
http://www.edgewateroregon.com/
* These are RV spots but they allow tents there
- Price is $35 per night
- $15 for boat slips
* They have bathrooms and showers
* Park is about 2 years old so it's in great shape
* They even have events at night on Saturdays and free Breakfast if you get there at 8 a.m on Saturdays
* They allow pets and up to 6 people per site
- No reservation fee
- I don't think there is a fee for additional people after 2 since they have a cap of 6 per site
* To reserve, just call and you'll have to pay a week prior to reservation date or lose your spot

That's pretty much it. I reserved a good spot by the water for us that will be big enough for tents and boats and on the water side.

jester
05-14-2010, 06:53 PM

mmandley
05-14-2010, 07:12 PM
I will ask Claudia what site we have. Yes they have a boat ramp but at the camp site they only allow RVs up to 35 ft. My truck and trailer are well over 50ft now. So we cant park both at the camp site.

After visiting Foster Lake and Green Peter Reservoir today. Seeing the lakes and camp grounds and after talking with Mike tonight. The Oregon mini jam has been officially moved to Green Peter Reservoir. The camp ground that they have there is called Whitcomb Creek County Park. They have 39 campsites plus a reservable group area. I am willing to wait until Monday and if I have enough people commited to this trip then I will go ahead and get the group site. If not then we can just get our own sites after Monday. I think the group site would be nice because it is on the water and everyone in this camp area will be part of our group. The normal camp area is not on the water. These are just normal camp sites. Fire pit, picnic table, restrooms but non flushable. There is no morage but there is plenty of parking for the boats on the trailers. This lake is HUGE! this is the best choice for evyone I think. Here is the link to the campsite info,

I will let everyone know Monday if we can get the group site or not. If not as of today there were like 20 or 21 sites avaolable for the night of the 16th and 17th. So we should be good if we can't get the group site.

Ok so the group site is $200.00 a night and a $50.00 deposit. So it would be $450.00 to book and Mike and I do not want to front that. So they have about 20 or so individual sites left. I got Sites 14 and 15. I will post the link to reserve below. Do it Quick!!!

Alright, I'm committed - just booked one of the cabins at the Foster Lake RV park for Friday and Saturday night. We will just come up and hang with you guys during the day/early evening then head down to our cabin to sleep.

Haven't seen much activity from anyone other than stretch, mandley, and jester. Is anyone else going to make it?

Do not worry about the amount of people. I can break more stuff by 10AM then most people can break all month. This will be a blast.

I am with my church group during the same weekend at Foster. We normally try and head up to Green Peter at least one of the mornings for some nice finger glass. I will try and meet up with the group while we are up there.

Yup, we are driving down first thing Friday morning and hitting the lake as soon as we get there.

Stretch/Mike,

When are you guys arriving Friday? If not til later in the day, we may just boat on Foster Friday and check it out since we have not been on either lake before. Then we could drive up to Green Peter Friday night and hang out at your campsite for a while.

Well check in isn't until 2:30 but I am going to try and sneek in around 11:00 or 12:00. I am bring my RV so if I can't put it at the site I will just have to park it in the overflow and drop the boat and hangout on the lake until 2:30 then I can park the RV. Nothing to really set up. There are no hook ups so just park it, level it and light the hot water heater.

I'm headed to lake billy for the week. Take plenty of pics. For those that haven't been to green Peter you will love it. Foster looks sweet, but green Peter is where you want to be.

Well, the Oregon Mini Jam has come and gone. A total of three boats showed up - me, mandley, and stretch. I did meet RobertJ at Foster Lake on Friday - good meeting you Robert!

Green Peter Lake was pretty crowded and windblown on Saturday so we spent most of it tied up in one of the lake's fingers. Except that it was hard to stay anchored in about 70' of water with only a 100' anchor rope! As the day wore on, more and more boats left and we finally fired up our Moombas and got on with the water sports. As we went up and down this particular finger of the lake, I kept seeing stretch's and mandley's boats but few others. So I guess we know who the posers are and who the true enthusiasts are!

Hope that more boats can join us next year. Green Peter is a beautiful lake and I will definitely be visiting it again this year.
