'01 Mobius, '02 LSV, or new LSV?

I am looking to buy my first Moomba, and have found 3: 2001 Mobius, 2002 Mobius LSV and a new Mobius LSV. What is the difference between these boats? Has the hull or the performance changed? Any input is appreciated. Any advice for a newbie???

I can't really comment as to the older boats, but I have an '03 Mobius LS and love it. Only problem I've had was the fuel pump seized over the winter for no apparent reason. No fault of Moomba's. The only helpful thing I can add is that I've heard many people say that the quality of Moomba boats has vastly increased over the last few years.

Here is a comparison of the hulls:

When it comes to Outbacks, Outback LS, and Mobius Direct Drives there have only been 3 hulls since they were first introduced. I will refer to them as OB1, OB2, and OB3. OB1 was designed for 1997. OB2 was designed for 2001. And OB3 was designed for 2003. Here is the matrix you guys are looking for...

OB1 97-02 Outback, 99-00 Outback LS, 98-00 Mobius (LS)
OB2 01-04 Outback LS, 01-04 Mobius (LS), 02-04 Outback LSV/Mob LSV
OB3 03-04 Outback

The Mobius V and Kamberra had it's own hull from 00-03.

The Mobius XLV has it's own hull new this year.

So the hulls are the same for all 3, if you weight them similiarly they should produce similiar wakes. Sounds like the main diff is the V vs D drive.

Thanks for the info. All 3 are V-drives, so the performance and the wake should be equal??? I am leaning towards buying used because the price is about $10K lower than new. But I am just a little nervous about the condition. The used boat has low hours, but is there any way to check to see if it has ever had a major mechanical failure?

Are you sure the '01 is a v-drive? If it is a Mobius it is a D-drive. Other wise performance should be the same. Do they all have the same options? I would think that the local dealer would have info on them, but I know of no carfax type service for boats (there may be one).

I have an 01 Mobius, great boat, however, I would look it over very carefully. Check for hairline cracks along the rub rail and around the swimplatform brackets.

Well you said Mobius if it is a Mobius V thats different and by that chart above it looks like it had it s own unique hull.

You're right, it's a Mobius....not a Mobius V. And I am looking to buy a V-drive so I have room for my dog in the boat. So the '01 Mob is out and the 02 LSV sold. I may have to bite the bullet and buy new. If anyone knows where I may be able to find a used Moomba V-drive with low hours, PLEASE let me know. Thanks!!

If you can swing it the XLV is awsome, The new hull is great for smooth or rough water. We wakeboard at a windy lake in Northern California, Lake Sonoma and this boat is great.

I know that the LSVs have been hard to come by this year if it was not ordered early in the year. Have you looked at boattrader online. There appear to be several LSVs in Florida?
