We took the boat out for the first time on Thursday and Friday after its winter hibernation. It was absolutely filthy, and I've got a small backlog of projects that I wanted to get done, so since the boat is now sitting in my driveway I figured I might as well take advantage of the beautiful weather knock some things off the list.

First up; I installed stainless thru-hull fittings for the bilge, and ballast vent and drain;

These are the fittings I used:

Next up I decided to spend a few hours on my back and get the bottom cleaned up;

For the last 2 years I've just tucked the iPod on top of the battery tiedown. This becomes a PITA if I decide to use my iPhone, because then I just have the wire laying about. At one point I lost the cooler drain-plug, so I picked a few extras up at Lowes, and one of those ended up working perfectly for this project. Basically I just poped a 1-1/2" hole through the glovebox with a forester bit, and then drilled a 1/8" hole in the center of the plug, and used a hand saw to cut slot for the iPod cord to run through. Tada!

And a quick snap of the whole 'rig' haha:

Looks good. Now take a Magic Eraser and clean the black spots out of the glove box. :)

That's actually just gunk from the rubber that I hadn't wiped up yet. I want to get some gator grip or Seadek or something to line the base.

That's a great idea. My wife lines our kitchen cabinets with this rubbery liner stuff that comes in sheets (rolls actually). I should put some of that in the bottom of the glove box. I can't stand the keys and stuff rattling.

Good job on the thru hulls. I used a piece of left over gator grip in my glove box, works and looks great.

Nice job Ian!

Kame i used similar but it is for lining cabinets or toolboxes. It's that non-slip rubbery stuff that looks like waffles :p Works well 'cause i can also remove it to clean then put it back.

The stuff she uses to line the drawers and cabinet shelves is a tan color that would match pretty well. The gator grip I have left over is from the old boat so it's grey and white. The tan stuff is thinner too and that box isn't very deep.

Exactly! I have some Seadek left over from the non-slip pads i made but i didn't want it in the glovebox either.

Nice work, looks great!

I used tool box drawer liner and it stays put and has held up very well so far.

I finally bought a Tower Mirror Arm for my CIPA Extreme mirror. I ended up snagging it on eBay for $50 from Bakes Marine - it was kind fo scratched, so I spent a little time with the polishing wheel and it came out great! I had to order the CIPA Extreme Mirror Adaptor from MonsterTower (Great customer service! I ordered on a Thursday at about 9pm, and had it at my door on Tuesday!)

I got mine for $89 from West Marine - they price matched an online site, and shipped it to my door. Definately better than the $300 or whatever you see on some sites!

We ride without a spotter (Shhh!!!) fairly often, so the Extreme definately helps the driver keep an eye on the water, and on the rider.

If you can believe it, in FL if you have a mirror you don't have to have a spotter. When I first moved here I thought they were nuts but it's very common.

That way in Wyoming too..........I boat on a river that splits Wyoming and MT. Need to have a spotter in MT but not Wyoming so makes it kinda handy regardless!

What do you do, keep to the WY side?

Georgia has the same rules, all you need is a mirror! But at least GA requires you to wear a helmet when you ride motorcycles.
Haven't I seen where some western states have to have Flags on the boat?
That sounds like a California thing doesn't it!?

OK let's not be Cali bashing :p

Actually there are many states that require skier/rider down flags, at least 20-25 if i remember right. Not only do you have to have a flag here but an observer 12 or older as well as the obligitory mirror.
