Man ,am I Ticked.........finally got up to my cottage and one of the cables on my boat lift let loose and the boat dropped and slid off the left rear bunk. The whole left rear corner is smashed in against the crib of my dock and wedge tight against it. I called my closest dealer not sure how they are going to get it to the boat ramp to load it on a trailer ,maybe a barge , luckily it is only sitting in 2.5 feet of water so the motor should be fine. will post some pics later.......sad :(

For the love of God it's the beginning of the season!!!

Who put your lift in? Did the cable break or did it come apart at a clamp? Unless there was severe corrosion I would be looking at who designed and installed the lift for an explanation!
Sorry to hear about this, you might have to get block and tackle, and lift it up yourself!

So sorry to hear that sucks and how could they possibly match the gel coat

Really sucks. If possible , my buddy never touched his lift. Has a company put it in and maintain it. They also accept liabilty other than natural disaster. Good luck.

DOCDRS - Like z, I'm curious about what exactly happened so I can learn and maybe avoid the same situation. Please let us know. Thanks. - Deerfield

Oh man, I am so sorry to hear this. How bad is the boat? Is this a fix or a replace situation? Please keep us posted.

KG. I. Couldn't let you have all the fun. JV. I actuallydo keep it in the lift all winter. Put the lift in myself it. Is engineered for 10000 lbs

Docdrs, hopefully either the lake does not freeze or you have a permanent pier that is not affected by ice. my hoist with boat in it could get carried accross the lake and dropped with the ice and wind.

I have wood cribs supporting everything........pretty much a weekend expert on wood cribs imo. Lake freezes 2-3 feet thick

I was reading along waiting to say my peace, thank goodness I came late to the dance and didn't get suckered in...well wait I did, but you will never know....no wait I just admitted it, ah crap whatever, good one :D

You mean I said all those prayers and stayed up all night for nothing? OH MAN!! Think of all the poor starving little kids that could have benefitted from my prayers. It's just so sad. Makes me want to do something productive like run out and put some new A/C on my boat or something.

04-03-2010, 01:27 AM
And I was feeling bad for you?
That's what I get :)
YOU -

You need to help us "authentic southern boys" out, like a picture and a description of what a "crib" is and its purpose, as it sounds very interesting.
All I have to do is blow the Cypress trees leaves (needles, not sure what they are called buy they are not evergreens) off the dock a couple of times.

A "Crib" is an interlace of logs or some kind of timber say 4ft x 4 ft then filled with stones and boulders. That is the simplest description.

Those Canadian's especially the ones from Southern Ontario are a shifty bunch :D
