What is everyone using for measuring water temperature that is portable?
I'd be interested in buying one since my depth guage doesn't have that feature built in.
Thanks!

Do you have Perf Pass?
That's how I get water temp!

If you are on the cheap you can buy what I did. It's about $3 to $4 on ebay. It comes from Hong Kong and takes about two weeks. It's a fish tank thermometer. It works great! You drop the sensor in the water and it reads the temp in about 30 seconds. Here is a link to one of the ones currently on ebay (same model I have)

You can't beat the price!

WOW - Graybmg! Is it pretty reliable? I might go that route as that is all I really need. I just wanna know how much shrinkage I'll get before I get in :):p

04Outback - NO PP. That's why I asked about something portable :)

Why not just buy a pool thermomiter on a string? They sell them at Walmart or a pool supply place.

Super reliable! You can't beat it for the money. It just takes a while to arrive in the mail. It reads to one decimal point. (76.7 degrees, for example)

It's small and nothing substantial but it does exactly what I want it to. Tells you the temp before you jump in!

I also looked at the pool thermometers at Wal-mart. The aquarium thermometer seemed to be more accurate, easier to read and work faster. And I think it's even cheaper. Go with what you like Viking.

I use the indoor/outdoor digital thermometer with the external probe and epoxyed a washer on the end of it. I throw the probe over the side. I had a pool thermometer once but I forgot about it and lost it. All I had was the string flapping in the wind. I sorta felt like the Griswalds in "Vacation" when they had the dog tied to the back.

graybmg - thanks for the input. I think I'll order 1 up so I have it before it's mid-season.

zabooda - now that's funny :)
