Air Lift Suspension

I know some of you guys are running the air lift series rear suspension. I just got one of these for Big Blue. It doesn't say in the instruction, do i remove my regular socks all together? Or do the air bags work with the shocks?

Just curious, i wont be doing this install till next weekend.

shocks are not removed, air bags just help level a sagging rear when loaded down.

Exactly, you don't change a thing but add the brackets, bags and lines. Also remember that if you got the compressor it needs to go in a dry location and not in the engine compartment.

You can get a ViAir compressor, 3-gallon tank, 1 solenoid, 1 switch, 1 gauge for the price of the compressor kit. Then you've got on-board air, and can plumb it to air up tires, power a train horn, etc...


This makes a lot of sense. What's the cost of this (ballpark)?

If you don't need the air tank or air horn I'd recommend this. Harbor Freight puts these on sale for $50 and fill a 35" x 12.5" tire from 10psi to 25 psi in about five minutes. Thirty amps so it connects to the battery. jonyb has an excellent setup that I envy with a tank and all.

I already bought the on board system, its ok if its a little slow, I like the idea of the tank and air fitting, i still dont want to have to get a compressor out of the back, plug it in to air the system.

I want a completely stand alone system, this way when i sell the truck in a few more years it will be a true upgrade for some other guy wanting to toe things.

Biggest problem i have, and why i got a air system is my truck sits so high normally i have to stand on the bumper to get the boat on the hitch. Then after the boat is on it sags so low i had to flip the receiver and ball over for a 2inch lift to the trailer would sit level.

Now i can flip my receiver over and have a 2inch drop, this will allow the boat to connect with out standing on the bumper of my truck, then his the air switch to raise the truck to level and the trailer to level.

Even with the boat hooked up my truck still felt solid and rode fine, just hate the ass end looking low LOL.

I have the setup from AirLift Ride Control System (http://www.airliftcompany.com/load_support_index.html) with the Load Controiller II gauge/compressor (http://www.airliftcompany.com/load_controllerII.html)and it works just fine. Has a 0-100 psi rating with the single onboard compressor and gauge. I run it at 5psi (minimum) when unloaded, 30psi when towing and 60psi when towing and the bed loaded with all our camp gear. Will fill to 60psi in about 30 seconds.

Got the whole setup for around $210 shipped, well worth it.

Yup this is the eact system i got as Razz i asked him about it last winter and decided thats was the way to go.

JonyB, actualy its a Ford if i had a Chevy then it would be low all the time LOL. At least the newer Chevy's seam to all sit pretty low unless you goto the 2500 series.

That is the best part, isn't it? "Paid for!" This week I have all three road vehicles paid for and it feels great.

I like that VW -- as soon as I figure out how to get all 8 of us into a VW I'll get one. Until then it's the bowtie for me. We were talking about dream cars and dream boats the other day and one of my daughters asked me what my dream car is. I said the Suburban that hauls all of us and tows the boat is my dream car.

Id like to know why Chevy doesnt offer its Suburban in a Diesel?

That would be pretty sweet. 4x4 Diesel Suburban, now that i might consider. As for now ive been eyeing the new 2010 Dodge 2500 Cummings 4 door cab, 4x4 with all the goodies. Runs about 55K.

2001 Suburban= PAID FOR = Regular gas = hauls 8 of us plus gear = tows the boat just fine= no worries!

2006 F150 XLT 5.4 Triton HO Paid For holds 5 of us just fine. Pulls with no issues technically, but i want a Diesel LOL.

air bags are to lift the truck,.shocks are to aborbe the bumps and stop the truck from bouncing.
